Default Like my Martin DRJ-10E but am considering a Martin 000-10E Spruce Top

I was looking for something with better playability but not too expensive. I found I think a guitar which I will buy next year. It is a Martin 000-10E Special Edition with a Spruce top.

Top Material: Solid Spruce
Body Material: Solid Sapele
Body Type: 000-14 Fret
Bridge Material: FSC Certified Richlite
Electronics: Fishman MX-T

I have had that model but without the electronics for a couple years and it has been my most played guitar since I got it and I have a dozen acoustics to choose from. Sounds good and is very comfortable. Been playing primarily acoustics since I began playing in 1957 but now at 76 only play at home now.

Those Road Series Martins are very hit and miss with their playability and setup. If you play one in person that's a good example I'd say go for it.
I played a D12e a while back in a shop and it blew me away. Thought it was the best Martin in the shop, even amongst all the USA models there.

If you're looking for better playability, take you guitar for a set-up. The 000 isn't necessarily going to be any better than your Djr and your Djr should sound better.

I did take it for a setup. My theory is I needed just a little bit bigger guitar which will make it easier to play.

I played my Djr yesterday. It sounded and played reasonably well. One shortcoming was when the capo was on the 7th fret it was a bit cramped but it was manageable. Question: why would the Djr sound better than a 000-10E?

Unless I needed the shorter scale of the Junior series (as a travel/couch guitar, to play songs with impossible reaches, like TE’s Those Who Wait),* I would prefer to play a normal sized guitar. For pure playability, the short scale on a 000 is my favorite (although the majority of my guitars are standard scale—go figure). If you don’t have access one at a shop to try before you buy, buy from a shop that has a good return policy (GC offers 45-day returns even on used gear, unless it’s what they consider vintage).

* I have two GS Minis and a Furch Little Jane, so I get that desire.

I like the DJr’s but purely as a travel guitar or for someone who needs a smaller bodied guitar. Since I didn’t need either I sold it. I used to own a GS mini the DJr and I never liked the smaller boxy sound. Whether strummed or fingerstyle I’m much happier with my FS800 as my couch “beater” alternate tuning knockabout guitar. If you want a Martin save up for an American one.

At the time, I bought the DR-10E because it was affordable. I looked at other options and now found the Martin 000-10E. It is also affordable and just a little bigger so it should be easier to play.
