Mary Black is one of my favorites, and I've seen here many times, but never have seen her pick up anything but a Bohdran (sp?) I don't think she's a guitarist.

I believe that's correct, I was thinking more in term of songwriting. What made me think of her was, on one of her songs in particular there is IMO, one of the finest recordings of acoustic guitars( no idea of who's is playing) I've have ever heard.

In no particular order:
The late, great Eva Cassidy (listen to "Fields of Gold" and "Over the Rainbow" on YouTube) Gillian Welch (virtually anything by her) Christina Sturmer (from Austria - check out "Mama (Ana Anabak)" "Engel Fliegen Einsam" - Eagles Fly Alone and "4 Jahreszeiten" on YouTube - hard to believe that she's only 27) Vigdis Wisur (from Norway - listen to "The Moon's a Harsh Mistress", the great Jimmy Webb song, on YouTube) Michelle Branch ("Breathe") Joan Osborne (a lot of what she does) Maybe - Nadine Coyle |

Another vote for Patti Larkin because of her guitar playing and one for Kate Wolf just because she was Kate.

I am not that lazy (!), but my short answer is "All of them." Carly is awesome ... so is Nora.
