What I find interesting (and hopefully VERY comfortable) is that a bevel on top of the 4" bass side body wedge is something close to 3"

Man that should be very comfortable without sacrificing any box size......

One of my friend who is waiting for his cedar/highly figured madrose Solace has been to Tom's shop a couple of times and has played quite a number of Tom's later guitars. He really loved them and has told me of the comfort of the bevel even though it seems like a big guitar. Not to mention the great tone that comes out each guitar.

I have not tried the Solace but having played a Ryan Cathedral, the bevel sure makes a lot of difference to me in terms of comfort there.

Default My Doerr Legacy Select

Here's a few pictures of my Legacy Select. It's Brazilian back/sides with an "LS" Redwood top. Tom's guitars are incredible at any price...but with the prices he charges so relatively so low, it's a great deal!

Enjoy your journey!

Btw, I have another Doerr on order...this time with the bevels!

I only owned a doerr legacy but it was one of the best that I have played.

It's true, the best is to get one of each model......

There are a few ABW solace around now. Tom is impressed with ABW
and has been enjoying building them.

Actually, to own any of his guitars is really great choice already.
I know he is playing around with a larger body without a bevel... I have some tough decisions ahead

Matthew, after choosing the model, you will also have to choose whether you want things like abalone purfling, koa binding and etc..... and inlays too if you are going for it.

I am a bit confused. The solace is a larger bodied guitar than the legacy correct?

Yes, the Solace (his newer body style) is nearly 3/4" larger on the lower bout than the legacy, which is:

Upper Bout 11”
Lower Bout 15.5”
Length of Box 19.5”
Depth of Neck Blocks 3.5”
Depth of Tail Block 4.875”
Scale Length 25.7”

Note that the numbers I have in the earlier post are for the Solace with the body wedge. I'd imagine that a non-body wedge version would be around 5" depth across.

That's a good a question. Honestly, each one of his guitars I've played have sounded like "his." So, I think it'd come down to whether or not you can swing it and want it. He's a very talented guy, you're going to have yourself an amazing guitar!

Kindly,
Danny
