Default Mahogany back, not what I would call figured, but...

Ran across a mid 2000's taylor gc with an interesting hog back and redwood top.

I've seen quilted and flamed hog on some examples but this looks nothing like those. Am I just sheltered when it comes to hog backs?

I like the highly figured and flamed versions I've seen, but not sure how I feel about this one.

Whaddya think?

I think that what I'm used to seeing is the flamed and curly mahogany from more expensive guitars or the quilted mahogany from a lot of "The Tree" models. This looks more like "tropical mahogany" which covers a pretty large amount of alternatives. I know also that several guitars I have with "genuine mahogany" or stained a wine red or darkened in some way that hides anything but that straight grain look. Honestly, the 5 series mahogany, as well as the 3 series sale are some of my favorite Taylor's. I also have a sinker redwood Taylor and can't recommend it enough for something that diverts from the typical Taylor sound.
