Beautiful flame in the neck blank and incredible grain in the ziricote. Mark is building great guitars and I can't wait to see how this mod D turns out. Congrats!

Very exciting, Congrats! I met Mark at the Santa Barbara show when he was still with Ervin if I recall, very cool guy. I've followed his work over the years and have always been impressed... looking forward to seeing this come together.

What's not to love about this build so far? It'll be fun to watch. Thanks for inviting us along.

Nice nice. Is this really a somogyi school Mod D though?
It looks to me more like a OM...or is this Mark's new mod d design of this own?

The back and sides with original Mod D outline drawn.

From what I’ve heard Ervin encourages any one who asks permission to build guitars in the style of his to draw their own shape and make things their own, not just a full copy of a Somogyi guitar.

Got some more photos from Mark, it's really coming together nicely! I'm loving the shape and the cutaway and the Ziricote!

Bobby, your MD is coming together beautifully.
The process that transforms wood stock into a functional piece of art is just remarkable. Keep the baby pictures coming.

The Ziricote looks even more beautiful now that it is beginning to take shape as a guitar. Just......WOW.

I got some more photos of the closed box with binding being installed. Also some neck and headstock work.

Bobby, your build is looking wonderful. The choice to forego a back strip was surely the right one given the strong figure and perfect book match. Do you plan any inlay work? The natural wood "bling" certainly does not require any adornment to attract attention.
I am expecting delivery of one of Mark's builds in the second half of next year. As I have not decided on an OM vs. MD, I am following your MD build with great interest.

We chatted quite a bit about inlays and ultimately I decided to go kind of minimalist black and white theme after seeing the photos of the Gaiero OMC that Mark built for Eddies which was in similar woods.

Here’s a link to photos of that guitar.

Solid choice. Very elegant, especially with the geometry of Mark's Florentine design. I find that some renditions are good, and others are just exceptional - like Mark's, where the "removal" of real estate very much adds to the overall appearance. As with my Spohn OM-C.
