Default Thinned the herd a bit...

So it's a good bye to my Larrivee OM-05.

Nice guitar, but it sat unplayed for months at a time.

But.... now there is room for another....

Any ideas yet? Or are you going to let it percolate for a while?

I'm thinking a Santa Cruz FS model, but there do not seem to be any new ones around - which is okay because I'd rather wait until November, December. Also, there was a few other builders that I was interested in. I'm going for new again, not used.

Keep an eye on Sylvan Music's website. They get lots of SC's in there, being in the same town and all. I will say that I played an FS years ago and thought that my Lowden O32 (at that time) was a better tone.

Barry, I don't know that an FS will be any better than your Avalon, and cost close to 2x, right?

It might cost 3-4x. I got a good deal on my Avalon.

I'd have to listen to the FS though.

This one below sounds a bit crisper than my Avalon and it sparked my interest in the FS.

Sounds like a great plan, Barry. I look forward to vicariously following along. :-)

I really enjoy it when Barry becomes even more interesting than usual …

Looking forward to what comes next.

Perhaps you were already intending to attend the Luthiers Showcase in Woodstock in October, but that event will give you an opportunity to play hundreds of guitars (and to meet Michel Pellerin). A lot of the luthiers offer discounts on show guitars purchase at the show, which is a plus.

The Santa Cruz FS is an awesome guitar! I played one 5 years ago that was a 1999 in mint condition at Rudy’s NYC. It was the base model Mastergrade Cedar over EIR and the sound just exploded out of it. If I were a fingerstyle player, I would have bought it on the spot.

I wasn't aware of that show, thanks!

Default Dang Barry

I can remember when I started your list was a lot smaller and you questioned your playing but as time went on your list got nicer and nicer. And now a Santa Cruz is next. Fantastic and nice choice will add something different to the collection that's for sure. Good hunting my friend.

Attending a guitar show if it is doable for you is a fabulous idea. I have had the good fortune to attend quite a few over the years and I highly second this recommendation.
Best,
Jayne

I just sold my Larrivee OM-40R to help fund my J-45.
