Default Strange

Is it just me or does this happen to others? I have a guitar for sale in the classifieds, so I took it to church this morning thinking this may be the last time I get to play it outside the house. Darn if it did'nt seem to sound better and play better than I ever recall. I had the same thing happen when I had a Larrivee up for sale. I ended up pulling it off the market and keeping it. Sure makes it hard to turn loose of one. Or maybe it's just me.

Nope - not just you...

Almost everytime I decide to out a guitar up for adoption the ol' heart strings start to be pulled. I image Jung or Freud could explain it.

I sometimes pick up a guitar I have keep in the closet for a while and rediscover why I bought it. That is why I tend not to sell them. Kind of a history of my guitar travels. Sometimes nice to go down an old road every now and then.

On almost every guitar I've sold. As soon as I tell someone a price, or I'm open to offers, it just starts singing.

Default separation anxiety

I know how you feel. I used to have a collection of five very nice Alvarez Yairi guitars. I loved each one of them. I gave two of them away to close friends, because these guitars weren't getting enough attention from me.
The recipient of the first one was a chronically unemployed musician/poet. He took the guitar (an almost new WY 1 model, which I bought for $1200) to a pawn shop to get a $250 loan. He defaulted, and lost both the guitar, and me, as a friend.
The other guitar, a beautiful DY 80, went to another friend, and wound up getting stolen by his girlfriend's ex husband. Heartbreaking, on both counts.
Lesson learned: Spend your good karma wisely.
Then I became a luthier and started building my own designs. I'm into my eleventh year as a builder now, and I still fall in love with almost every new guitar. At first, it was very difficult to let go of them, because I built them to have all of my dream characteristics. It's getting a lot easier now, because it's such a pleasure when their new owners get such great joy from them.
I wish each guitar the best of good fortune on its journey, and speak a magic incantation into the soundhole, that they should find the perfect owner. Seems to work out well every time. -edwinson

They know you are thinking of getting rid of them and it makes them reconsider all the good times and they sing songs of joy.

Because I find this phenomenon to be true for me, as well, my rule is to clean her up, take the photos and put her in the case until packing. Otherwise strange things will happen and I may not sell.

Yes, I have a Schertler SM (concert size, mahogany/swiss spruce) that I keep trying to sell, then it makes itself useful.

It's case is a really light foam affair, so I've been using it as a travel guitar (it has a full 25.5" scale and 1-3/4 nut). It sounds really good too.

But I promised the wife I'd sell it against other acquisitions so it'll have to go soon.

It seems that perception and memory are both highly subjective and not very reliable.

Same thing happens with my kids sometimes. It's hard to let them go when they start to act cute....

Every woman I've ever dumped . . . when I see her with a another guy, it just pisses me off to no end!

Wait, were we taking about chicks, guitars or general human nature?
