Ridiculous Reverb vintage guitar asking prices - why?!
Is it because they think it'll drive up the average value scale that Reverb provides? Do they actually sell these guitars for 3x the realistic price?
It's just a shame as when I'm shopping for a guitar, there are only about 3-4 listings with reasonable prices and the rest are literally 2-4x that. Most have been listed for months or years. I'm talking specifically about vintage Gibson and Martins. What gives? |

The more they come down in price, the better a deal it appears, right? Unless the high initial price is too high to get the shopper to even look further. I’ll make an offer for what I think it’s worth if I’m interested. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

Many sellers don't realize that it's a buyers market... and bottom line you can list your guitar for whatever you want but, if it's not a realistic price its just gonna sit...

They list it however they want. I don't find it to be an issue. I either look or skip, depending. It takes all of 10 seconds to browse an item.
I pretty much skip anything listed at an unreasonably high price, and anything that has sat for more than six months (or so). I usually sort by the items that were listed most recently on all platforms that support that sort option

There was talk recently that sellers may up the price to silly levels to essentially hold the guitar for someone dealing with them outside of reverb. I just stay away from those…

It is everywhere these days. You can get a brand new model for less than what some of these guys are asking for their used guitars.
Also if you take a look closer on some of those listings they will show where it has been for sale for several years too. |

You are assuming that a new (less expensive) version is somehow better than one which has been aged, broken in, and played through it's teen-age stage (where voices in men are erratic) musically to a more mature sounding instrument. Some people (and players) will gladly pay more for that… |
