Big Dreds need Lovin’ too!
I love getting my hands on a young, narrow-waisted small body (OO17, LG2,) but once in a while, still need to stretch my arms around a big ol’ Dred, and hear that big sound that no small body can deliver! (Guild D-40, almost as old as me!)
And kudos to Stew-Mac’s Preservation Polish! I suspect its a rebranded version of Virtuoso cleaner, but whatever it is, it effortlessly lifts years of right arm grunge from the lower bout. (And beer, and dog slobber…) and leaves a near mint shine.

Nice looking Guild! I agree with you..... I decided this past week that my playing is best suited to dreadnaughts...specifically rosewood dreadnaughts. So, I'm selling off my smaller guitars and going down to my Taylor Dan Crary and possibly a 12 string dread or another 6 string dread!!

While I am not going to sell my 000 or the OM, I recently bought a J-45 and a D-41 and my smaller guitars are just not getting any play time right now.

I'm a dread guy myself. I currently only have one smaller guitar (00 size) but have 10 dreads, both square and slope shoulder.
I'm also a Guild lover. I've got a D20, D30, D40, and D50. Great guitars, all of them! |

There's just something about that big room filling sound!! And my Dan Crary will rattle your teeth in ways an OM or 000 cant....

It's funny, injuries/repetitive stress issues aside, the dread (or jumbo/slope D) just has so much bandwidth, they have the dynamic range to accomplish just about anything. I don't even blame the marketing departments, I think it's something that we players started telling ourselves: "A dread is great for strumming, but not for fingerpicking... that should be a smaller guitar"
We say it all the time: if it suits you, ergonomically, nothing else sounds like a dread. It's physics, right? The shape of the top, the way the vibration runs through it, the less constricted waist. It's a good thing! Dreads will always be compelling.

When my shoulders were giving me problems when playing guitar, I got a GPC Martin and a GC Alvarez to see it that would help.
It didn't feel much better to play them. I got my shoulders repaired and now I'm back to Dreadnaught guitars. I use a strap even when sitting and there is no shoulder pain now. Now the smaller guitars are going to go up for sale.

Never should've sold my '74 Guild D-40NT.
GREAT guitar! |

Agreed. ^ I bet it was, 6. My old Guild D40-C NT is a great sounding dread also. It’s a ‘78, and by coincidence I was just playing it last night. I prefer dreads as a rule, even though I have a couple of non-dreads.

My go-to in an unplugged situation is an early-2K's Martin D-15S all-hog 12-fretter - big, bold, fat, and LOUD...

Every time I try to move away from dreads I always find myself being pulled right back to them. They just work well, and they fill the space with sound so nicely.
Cool Guild! |

Had a Collings CJ for a long time and then (Stupidly) sold it. Been using OM's and OOO's since but recently acquired a J15 and loving it. I didn't realize how much I missed that sound.
