NGD Gypsy Guitar
I just got my very first Gypsy guitar today, I've always thought it'd be interesting to be a Django Reinhardt wannabe, just never really wanted to lay down that much for something I might not like. I stumbled across this deal for a lefty SX Gypsy guitar so I jumped at it, it was the very last one the site had and they had it listed extremely cheap.
It has a zero fret so swapping it to a right handed guitar was pretty easy. Re-slotted the nut a bit and strung it up with Martin SP PB .12, I know I'm suppose to use Gypsy guitar string but SP's were all I had lying around and couldn't wait It's a solid spruce top with some nice silking, kind of surprised me at the price point, laminated rosewood back and sides. Hardware is alright, and the play-ability out of the box was pretty much spot on, after re-string I had to intonate with the bridge but other than that action and frets feel great. It sounds good to my ears, unique compared to my other guitars. Pretty loud for a little sound hole. Of course this being the first Gypsy jazz guitar I've owned I really have nothing to compare it to. Here are a few pictures and a sound clip. Off to youtube I go to learn some jazz guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a-A...FdTq0X4P4QKnxw Last edited by Vee_Voe; 11-12-2014 at 09:00 PM. |

Switch to gypsy strings as soon as you can...you'll be amazed at what a difference they make.

Somewhere a left handed Django Wannabe is crying
Not to be a poop head, but "soundhole" is kind of a misnomer. The size of it doesn't really control overall volume.

I love your new guitar. Already sounds good with those strings and I think it is beautiful. Cool story about buying the discount lefty. I have a feeling you are going to go through a gypsy phase.
If not, we can all just trade it around until we've all had a gypsy phase. Have fun!
