Wow, I didn't realize how much I had tied up. Especially since I will never see any return on my "investment" sigh...

I am at about 8k just in acoustics and electrics. Add in "other music related stuff and you could tack on 2500 more.

Untrue--the return is all the joy they bring you and others

These numbers may seem like a lot of money.. till you start looking at other hobbies people have. Like cars, boats motorcycles etc.
Makes guitars look like a bargain.
Oh, about $2,500 for me.

Very true. Guitars are just a small piece of the puzzle. Cars are a huge piece of my puzzle. I have well over 100k tied up in them.
I also collect and use high end pool cues. My latest cue ran me just over 2k.

+1 for Ted's comment

Now THAT could make me feel totally guilt free about spend several times that much on a wood product like a guitar which is so much more complicated!

What makes a pool stick cost $2K, if I may ask? I had no idea!

Hahaha. Well, like any woodwork of quality, there are technical advances, personal preference and, like guitars, fantastic woodwork and inlays.
Most conventional one and two piece cues are made from one piece of wood.
When you strike a ball, the cue deflects and the shot is less precise. This has always been the nature of the beast. I use Predator shafts on my cues. They make their shafts out of 12 pieces of wood cut in the shape of pie pieces, giving the shaft much more strength and very little deflection. The shafts aren't that expensive, about $300, and can be made to fit the butt of most cue makers. The higher costing cues have very intricate and gorgeous inlays done in the butts and are very precisely balanced. There are other makers that have adopted the pie piece splicing in making their shafts, but Predator invented it and, IMO, still do it the best. There is an equally hot headed world out there regarding pool cue manufacturers as there are guitar players and makers. Martin vs Taylor vs Gibson...Predator vs Meucci vs Schonn etc..
Predator has done a wonderful thing making their shafts interchangeable with other brand butts. Imagine if we could put a Taylor neck on whatever guitar we wanted
I used to make quite a bit of money playing tourneys, so good cues were justified. I no longer rely on that as a source of income, but I also haven't had the need to sell any of my cues either. Not dissimiliar from GAS, cue acquisition can be a real bank buster too. Original Balabushka cues can go for upwards of 30K.... I have no desire whatsoever to delve into that realm of cue. My modest stable of cues include Predators a Jacoby and a Dale Perry. Basically boutique cue makers, like boutique guitar makers, have laws of diminishing returns that are basically the same. Once you get above the 2K level the improvements are small compaired to the increase you pay (in the cue world, not the guitar world.) I'm more than happy with my Predators. They hit like Tyson and are gorgeous too.

I don't know him personally, but I do know who he is. I haven't shot on the pro level in 10+ years. In my day it was Mike Masse and Earl Strickland you watched out for. Mike is a great guy and an amazing shot. Now he does trick shot expos, if you ever get a chance to go see one you should. He's an awesome guy and his trick shots will blow you away. He's just a great entertainer and his shows are a ton of fun.
