Spot on Ted, but it will be interesting to see what number we do hit in spite of.

I think any lifetime player who also performed has had some serious money invested over the years, I mostly owned all the PA equipment for a 6 piece band too before I moved, lots of money in music, throw in a home theater too..........love the arts, love music, zero regrets about the money............

+1 here. I'd rather play great guitars than have a gold coffin.

Current (six) guitars I own were purchased for $10, 074...some new, some used and some offset by trade-in value
of another guitar (that value not included in the figure in red).

I got 11K in guitar value and 14K in mandolin value.

I paid $5.5K in guitar purchases and $10.2K in mandolin purchases.

If we are strictly talking about acoustics, I have about 1800 invested across 3 guitars. If electrics are thrown into the equation, I am at 26,200 total. This doesn't include amps, or pedals.

This is a fun idea, but your guess of $500k is going to be way, WAY low... there are many individual forum members who have well over $100k invested in guitars alone. For me:

Guitars and integral pickups that I currently own: $5,350

Amp & Accessories (cords, guitar stands, capos, straps, picks, tuners, metronome, cleaner, mics & mic stands, music stand, etc): $1,850

more Guitars None of this includes the many guitars I have bought and sold along the way... net negative cost (Cost - Sale) was approx. $1,500

... So, true total invested in Guitars $8,700
