ES EQ
Greetings all,
I took my new 810CES to the studio today and did some comparing with some folks with very experienced ears. We recorded with some great mics and recorded using the ES as well. When recorded with the mics, everyone thought it was great and needed absolutly no EQ. The ES direct was very midrange sounding. We decreased the 1,400 frequency and it sounded pretty good for a pickup system. The folks in the room said it was probably the best sounding pickup they have heard. I was really hoping it would sound great without any EQ. I love being able to tell the soundman to just leave everything flat. I look for the 2004 model to have sweepable mids. I had to send the guitar back today for the ES update. I think I read here that they are doing something different with the EQ. I know it's probably just to compensate for the dummy coil but I hope they have realized the need to decrease the 1,400 range as well. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I have to cut the mids on both of my ES Taylors. I love the sound of both guitars plugged in but that annoying "metallic" mid range makes me long for some on-board mid control.

Not too much to add, except that I too really have to decrease the low mids on my 610. The low eq nob does help eliminate the trouble frequencies, but of course eliminates the lower frequencies as well.

The only time I play live is on Church.
And so far I set the EQ flat...sounds great!!!!

There is no doubt the dummy coil produced midrange and that is not going to go away , though helped by cutting midrange at the EQ level. Downside is this also cuts your ability to ''cut '' through a mix while playing with other instruments . It is always a compromise here with guitars. My solution is to artificially dilute the midrange by leaving the EQ with midrange as is and use compression to soften the ''edgy ''' undesirable frequencies. Try that and see what you think.

Stixx,
do you know this from experience or is this an educated guess? I would really like more info on the ES and the ESII. Can you help me? I have read all the threads here and I am apprehensive about the coming of my new 814 now... Thanks a bunch
