Yamaha old L Series guitars
Although I have a great LJ16 that just sounds better and better all the time, I'm hankered after an older L Series Yamaha. Particularly, I think, as my favorite nut width is 1 11/16, although I adjust to 1 3/4 (as the LJ16 is) very easily. But I think it's also a bit of a Bert Jansch thing and I've heard and read some great things about the L Series guitars (especially on AGF).
The issue that confuses and concerns me a bit is whether some of the models are all solid or not, eg the LL11 the similar LD10 and others - are these laminated back and sides? Interested in your thoughts. |

The LD10 and LL11 had laminate back and sides. Here is the Yamaha archive web site : http://www.yamaha.com/apps/guitararc...itarchive2.asp
Unless the spec says "Solid Indian Rosewood", they are laminate. The LL25, made from 1985-1990 has solid back and sides. I have a 2003 LL500, which is solid back and sides. It is a phenomenal guitar, which sounds amazing, clear and crisp with great sustain and overtones. I just bought a Goodall Standard, and I will say my LL500 gives it a real run for the money.

I have a Yamaha LL5 12 string. Built in 1985, solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and laminated mahogany sides. Sounds awesome. Neck has a few more years then its wall art.
