My friend has two dulcimer's. One of them is a baritone.She tried tuning it to DAD standard,but the strings snapped. I'm surprised because she should reach D4 on a 29.5 scale. Slightly more tension than a hi e on a standard guitar.

Is it a McSpadden?
If so, then the body is the same as the standard dulcimers. It is the string gauges and nut slots and bridge slots that differ. You will need lighter strings to go up to DAdd.
