Probably not as it was written by Bernie Taupin and Elton John.

Gotta disagree about Chet.

He and Jerry Reed were two of the best guitarists on the planet, IMO. And that's not just technically.

Let's put it this way...neither of them have played something that made me cry.

I've never purchased any of his music and I don't seek it out to listen to it. Would have loved to have seen him play live...but, alas, I'm too young.

And there are a hundred players "better" than Chet, and I don't care for their music or musicianship.
I hear you. I feel the same way about a lot of high profile players. Was just curious.

No Youtube of that one, unfortunately . . and that clip is too brief.

Hey...that's not too shabby.

Now, if only they'd written it to begins with.

I just listened to Chet's version of "The Boxer"--unbelievable. Sounds as if he was very respectful of the Beatles. I bet they were even more respectful of him.

Great musicians? Undeniably.

Overhyped by a whole generation, abetted by the budding development of media, and the subsequent focus on self and youth? Definitely.

The great Canadian pianist Glenn Gould often expressed his preference for Petula Clark over the Beatles. As with everything Gould, you could never quite tell whether he was being serious or just provocative.
