Fretting hand pain
Well, I know this has been discussed many times before here, but I have somehow developed some serious pain in my left (fretting) hand, mostly on the little finger side of my upper wrist, lower palm. It hurts to grip anything. In the past, I have had occasional problems with the thumb side, so this is something new and more worrisome. Please advise, or direct me to previous threads.
Thank you. -BKinBWa |

That is the same part of the wrist that was hurting me after I slammed on the brakes too hard on my bike. I thought it would pass in a few days or weeks, but it went on and on... for 10 months I was really limited on some of the stretch things I could do... Tried a few things, and here are the ones that worked: 1) Those carpal tunnel wrist braces people wear. I slept in one for a couple of weeks and it made a big difference, and I use it any time that spot even hints of flaring up. 2) Making sure my wrist was straight while banging on a keyboard at work and as straight as possible when playing. 3) The final thing that put me over the top was a little bit of yoga and stretching. Does wonders for the rest of the body too.
Wishing you luck with this.

I will not attempt to make any assumptions about your pain, but will just say, anecdotally, that in general those unfortunately common activities can cause considerable damage and since you are already in pain, laying off may help with preventing further aggravation. If guitar playing hurts for now, consider laying off it, too, hard as that may be. I wish you the best. Injuries that limit everyday activities can be disheartening. I empathize and hope you have loved ones around as I feel that makes a profound difference (that, and going out and being in nature often) Last edited by SingingSparrow; 08-24-2021 at 02:44 PM. |

[QUOTE=lowrider;6793061]Serious pain isn't something to be diagnosed by a bunch of strangers on the internet. Call a doctor, preferably a hand specialist![/QUOTE
I agree 100%; the only advice you should be getting here is to rest it until you can get an appointment with an Orthopedic hand doctor

I sometimes have wrist pain when fretting an F barre chord. Weird that it doesn't bother me all the time, but on rare occasions. Hopefully I'm not getting a glimpse at the future.

Well, of course, I am not asking for medical advice here. For that, I go to the Photoshop Forum....
I am just hoping to hear from other guitar players with similar problems and what they've done about it. Thank you all for your input thus far. -BK in BWa |
