Best strings for fingerstyle?
A question for the fingerstyle players out there. Which strings are your go to and why? Just trying to get a general sense of what's out there and maybe try something new.

Depends what sounds you like.
I like elixirs for comfort, but when I am recording, a fresh set of Martins gives a nice scratchier/woodier tone...even their coated strings are a little brighter/woodier sounding. I sometimes enjoy hearing string noise and those santa cruz parabolic are really cool too...de-booms a lot of rosewood guitars without compromising the tone...really easyt on your fingers because of the tension vs. Gauge thing desert Island? Elixirs...phosphor bronze nano's

I like Elixirs, but I'm more under the impression a responsive top is my priority for fingerstyle.

For me it's not that big a deal brand wise or type, but I do prefer smaller gauge for me. I prefer the intimacy of lighter gauges my style of playing. Like 10-48/50, or 11-52s.

I am pleased with the sound, feel and longevity of Straight Up Strings.

I use Elixir Nano Phosphor Bronze (have for about 15 years). They have great sustain, intonation, tone…solid harmonics with my all-flesh style. I've tried a lot of others, but these are my semi-permanent choice…for all 5 of my acoustics. I use the Elixir electric Nano .011 for all my electrics. They last forever, and I'm a frequent bender and I've never broken one yet. |

I use Elixir nano light in 80/20 or PB. I lean towards 80/20 more and more these days.

Best strings for fingerstyle?
It very much depends on the guitar. Some guitars benefit from brighter strings, some benefit from strings that tame the brightness. Very much depends, too, on how the guitar is set up, what the action is like. Sometimes on a guitar that's a little harder to play, round core strings help a great deal. - Glenn

I keep changing strings.
Right now I have D'Addario Nickel Bronze 12 16 22 30 39 52 balanced tension on 2 guitars (Pellerin and McIlroy), Cleartone EQ 12 16 25 33 43 53 on the Avalon and Curt Mangan PB Round Core Fusion Matched 12 16 24 32 42 53 on the Furch. They all sound good and they all feel fine.

It really depends on the player and the guitar. I like to change things up a bit, but for my OM-28V I have three favourites that I rotate between most of the time. Straight Up Strings Mediums, Sunbeams Lights and Martin Flexible Cores Lights (TE's choice).
