Default Do casein picks dissolve in stomach acid?

My dog may or may not have eaten my casein d’addario Chris Thile pick (great pick, btw). I honestly doubt he did, in the off chance he did will it break down in stomach acid, being that it’s made from milk protein?

PD... I gotta admit... that's a question that has never crossed my mind, but I'll be much smarter when I learn the answer.

I don't know the answer to that specifically, but when my grand daughter swallowed a nickel the doctor told them that if they can get it down, they can squeeze it out. So I'm not a vet, but if it doesn't dissolve you may be able to retrieve it eventually and use it again.

I’ve heard of pick mods, but this takes the cake. Let us know how it sounds when you get it back. Who knows, you may be onto something—the guitar pick equivalent of kopi luwak.

Yes OP definitely needs to play this when it comes back out to see if it sounds better or worse.

No, please not! Might be that some guitar freaks start to feed their poor dogs with picks and sell the as ones with ‘THE MOJO’. Leave them dogs alone!

OP, I understand your worries and feel with you. Most probably you dog’s body can handle it. Please let me know the outcome. For now I have just two cats but if I ever retire there might be a dog with me again.

Our Maltese can't stand to have a collar on. So my wife puts a flea collar on him. He ate it. The vet bill was $1200 for the emergency surgery.

Flee collars have extreme amounts of toxic stuff, mainly insecticides, that will kill far more than the odd flee that, in addition, will get resistant. Use sparingly.

^^ this ^^

If you don't find it within a week or so, then the answer to your question is quite possibly "yes". Since casein is primarily hardened dairy proteins, I suspect that it would dissolve in stomach acid. The question is whether the pick Fido swallowed will dissolve faster than his little digestive system will process it. My guess is that you will find a remnant of the pick in some form, though likely no longer usable.

I'd be interested in hearing how this comes out (pun intended).

Have you ever seen the movie, "Gremlins"?

A dog eating a casein pick is the canid equivalent of feeding a mogwai after midnight.

It's something to do with the biochemical effects of casein on a dog's physiology.

CHEECH: Whoa, this pick is great, what's it made of?

CHONG: It's mostly Casein...but it's got some Labrador on it.

My Rusty, when he was about 6 months, chewed up my $70 Peterson Strobe Tuner. Curiously, though he did not ingest it, he never barks out of tune.
A Peterson rep read my post about this back then and sent me a new one, free of charge, and without the teeth marks.
I think your pup will be fine. I have consumed casein protein powder with no ill effects. Wish him well.
