Default Favorite Seat When Playing?

I've made several attempts to find a comfortable seat (stool, chair, etc. ...) for playing guitar. I don't use a strap, plays 1-2 hours daily. Currently I just randomly sit on the sofa or a dinning chair. Now that I wish to have a place near my work station, I'd really love to know what do you guys do in regards to seating, before I just put another random chair in the room. Guess the question is, is there a particular type of stool/chair that people like, and/or good for keeping posture and be comfortable? I've seen some guitar stools online but not sure they are the answer.

Thanks for any suggestion!!

When performing, I use a tall stool without a back.
At home I like to use a computer chair without arms.
They can be adjusted for height and back support.
I put a pillow or cushion on the chair for added comfort.

My favorite seat when playing is wherever I happen to sit down around the house...my backside fits any and all of them...I've sat on a few custom guitar player thrones, and they didn't feel like anything more to me than an expensive place to sit...

Hi AS

My SoundSeat…more than 19 yrs old (leather seat, and properly built chair).

It goes low enough my feet sit flat on the ground (I have short legs). I like the way (at 73 yrs of age) my back stays straight with my feet on the floor versus on a wrung or footstool.

We own 2. My guitar chair has the shortest piston, and our computer chair has the longest piston.

Like you, I play seated for 1-2 hours daily. I cycled through many seat options before finally ponying up for a SoundSeat. One of the best guitar-related purchases I’ve made. Expensive, yes. But worth every dime. Mine’s five years old and still looks like new.

Agree - I think that's the direction I'd look into, this or a drum throne with backrest.

Hey I do enjoy play on a tall stool!! Though it definitely isn't for longer practice.

I'm going to try a cushion on my dining chair today as a start.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Same here - got a nice reclining high-back leather office chair, with retractable arms and adjustable lumbar support, for $139 at Costco a few years ago and never looked back...

Hi LJ, this looks great! Totally relate to the mention of height for feet to comfortably touch the floor with a straight back and hold the guitar in good position. That's the exactly what I'd want this "perfect stool" to provide. I didn't know this soundseat before and a little Google search made me very jealous!! It's beyond my budget but I'm going to look up in case any pre-owned deal comes around (very rare though so far as I've searched..)

That would be my SoundSeat. It is nineteen years old but looks brand new. I've got the short gas lift and sit with my feet flat on the floor.

As I was replying to LJ it's my first time to know about SoundSeat and they look amazing! I like the foot ring on yours. Suppose that allows to sit high and still be comfortable. Guess I'll look for something that looks alike and cost less.

One question - I see SoundSeat features the saddle-like shape, I've never tried one like that, does it promotes comfortability? Or just different from a normal round shape seat?

Definitely contributes to its unique comfort.

Another sound seat user here. I have mine setup with wheels for a computer chair, but it has become the go to for playing instruments as well. Also I had a great experience with them just calling and explaining my use case and body height to get the right chair for me.
