Good point, and I certainly didn’t mean to sound like a snob. I make no claims of greatness over here.

A $3,000 guitar is another person’s $10,000 guitar.

I have asked about $500 instruments plenty of times. I don’t ask folks to talk me out of it, though. I’m sure it’s all in good fun when people say that.

Having been around here for a while, here's my take. If someone wants opinions on an ABC guitar model XYZ, they ask for opinions. When someone says they want to be talked out of getting ABC guitar model XYZ, they've already decided that they're going to make the purchase and just want validation...

That sounds about right. LOL Validation is a very real thing around here and elsewhere.

What's Up With "Talk Me Out Of "...

Not sure if choosing the negative tone has meaning, but it may be a subconscious way of eliciting negative opinions and experiences as a last check on a purchase someone wants to make and is just doing as much 'do' diligence as they can. So maybe just a boost of confidence for their upcoming decision.

A neutral or positive topic would indicate part of a general or specific search for an instrument. While getting some consensus might be the goal, it should still be treated as a starting or checking point in a search. Checking with the rest of the herd/pack can be valid. Or not.

But as we all know nothing beats actually playing an instrument before purchase. All things being equal (they never are), no two guitars are exactly the same. What fits my budget, hands, and ears really well does not make it a 'must' buy or a 'sure thing' for anyone else.

Ultimately what anyone says is just their opinion, and whether it is valid or not is still just that. Their opinion. And it can be polarizing. Or bi-polarizing. Or poly-polarizing for those that own more than two guitars.

Be well, play well, and search well,

Don

I don't think there's anything more up than forum members wanting to talk about guitars. Just a different way to go about it.

I take it seriously!
I will try my best to talk those posters out of it.
I never have to post a " talk me out of it" because I've always been
Able to talk myself out of anything!

Think of it it as a just another way of saying “is there anything I should be aware of that I haven’t considered?”

I am guessing it's just AGF slang "Hey I am thinking about *****guitar what are your thoughts "

Yes, this comment has always struck me as strange... Especially on this forum!
