I have to disagree. I much prefer the older 800. Series to the new version. The new version to me sounds pretty sterile and not very responsive. Plus I hate the new pickguard.

This I find strange or maybe oddly mid-century. I'll take real wood over plastic in almost any form or application.

Absolute agree with pjroberts, the wood pick guards are a great touch to me[emoji3]

Could you define not very responsive. Do you mean when you play it lightly, there is not much volume, compared to the old 800 series?

Agree big league. Played a new 810 yesterday and was blown away...

I wish I could find a new 800 series to play but it may be awhile before my local store ever has one. I did get to play a new 214ce Deluxe (the maple edition!) and that thing was stupendous! It's keeping me up at night!

I have to agree that I don't like the new pick guards, but to be honest, the color of "tortoise" on my 814ce does not do it for me much either. Never seen the new one in person though so my opinion could change.

Sounds to me like pre 2014 and post 2014 have their fans and why not? By all accounts the new ones are just as great as the old ones but with the awesomeness sprinkled in different areas is all!

I will say, I don't see to many people missing the old ES system once they have the ES2. This may simply be an all around, real improvement of the post 2014 models!
