Finally got to play a revoiced Taylor 810
I will say I was very impressed, I own a 1997 LTD 810 the one with the pearl purfling like a D-41 and it's a great guitar.
But this revoiced 810 has way more bottom end to it and I quite like it. What has been your experience with these revoiced Taylors?

Played a few at a Taylor road show. They sounded quite like other Taylors I have played in the past.

Personally I prefer the older Taylors. The newer Taylors sound like luthier/handbuilt instruments - which are cool, but one reason I like factory made brands such as Martin and Taylor is that they have their own unique voice. In the case of Martin, a growly low end, and Taylor a relaxing sparkle. It's one reason I've purchased these two brands over other more high end brands in the past. I've also owned a Beneteau, Santa Cruz guitars, etc... The point I'm trying to make is, the newer Taylors feel like a different brand of guitar. If not for the name Taylor on the headstock, I'd play the newer 800 series, they'll sound amazing and fantastic, but I'd say OK that's a fine guitar, probably out of my price range, not necessarily the guitar I'd buy if I had that sort of money as there are a lot of options, etc.
One thing I do like about the new 800 series is that they do rumble against your chest, unlike older Taylors (even the CV braced ones) that don't move at all when you strum them. |

Yesterday I played an 810, 812, 814, 816 and 818. The GC (812) and GO (818) particularly stood out, moreso to my ears than the pre-2014 models.

I am the very proud owner of a '14 810, and it is the favorite of all the Taylors I have owned over the years (7). The revoicing gives this 810 a little something extra special in the low end that I really love. It's a real joy to play - AND to look at!

Ok, dumb question time from a Gibson addict - what is meant by "Re-voiced"?

It means they changed the bracing.

Changed, as in changed the design / layout at the factory, or has this been modified by the user?

I played the old versus the new side by side at Russo's in Asbury Park. Big difference. I thought the new one sounded great...

The factory changed the design of the bracing. The revoicing is supposed to make them more balanced (less tinny sounding) and more responsive.

Finally got to play a revoiced Taylor 810
They changed the top bracing, back bracing, side bracing, the wood thickness, using an ultra thin 3.5mil finish. They compete with anything now in bass response plus the traditional note definition. Someone mentioned above that they sound like independent luthier built guitars. I agree.
The changes are intended to show that potential of the guitars to appeal to enthusiasts looking for something different then the standard Taylor sound. I bought two new 800s, having never played a single Taylor in 40 years. Last week I got the 210e dlx, which actually sounds like what I would expect a laminate 810 to sound like. I'm a recent Taylor convert. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Not knowing much about, ok, nothing about Taylor's bracing patterns, was the change primarily in shifting the x-brace forward or back? Different positioning of the tone bars? The nay Taylors i have ever played were older models, and they did lean towards the bright side.

I think the new revoiced Taylor guitars (2014 series) are fantastic! I personally think the 800 series is much improved over the pre-2014 models.

I owned the new 810e for a while and loved the rumbly low end and fatter trebles compared to other Taylors I've owned and played.
