In the UK & Europe prices include VAT(sales taxes),in North America they are added.

recently bought a mint D-28 at GC for $1699.00 US (pays to visit GC often when it just opens) - buy used - there are deals out there, just be patient - Canada is indeed a great country (Canadian here) but not the best place for buying high-end guitars, no

$2,499.00US converted at today's rate = $2,995.55 CND

That is before shipping ~$200.00 + brokerage fees + 15% tax.

Either way it a loose loose situation for us Canadians.
I doubt that it is. Surely you have better social services and health care in Canada than available in the USA.

These have to be paid for, and a 15% purchase tax (VAT) is very low compared to the EU. (We pay 20% in the UK, and an imported acoustic guitar would also incur 3% import tax, and other admin fees - ALL subject to 20% VAT).

BTW - Is Tookalook a place in Canada ? (If it isn't it should be!)

When comparing US to either UK or Canadian pricing, keep in mind there is sales tax in the US collected at time of purchase, generally 6 to 10%.

These a couple of things
1. Tax is not 15% in Ontario it's 13% (small exaggeration)
2. Our dollar is worth 83 cents USA today and I think last week it was 78 cents.

Retailers are paying $170 per thousand just on the dollar. Sending a pal in the US some Canadian cash to buy you a guitar results in the same exchange rate and you may get nicked at the border for the tax.

I bought my D-28 a little over two weeks ago from GC at $2,499. The GC salesmen must have been in a good mood that day because I asked if that was the best price they could do for me and that if he looked in the store data base they will see I have been a long time customer. 3 minutes later the Salesmen comes back and states that he can take $350 off the price. I was happy with this and thanked him and told him this guitar is sold.
I have a great guitar at a good price. I don't understand why our friends in Canada should have to pay more for the same guitar. I know it's economics, Taxes and such, but it doesn't make it right.

We could probably work something out... southern Ontario, Alberta, and a first-round draft pick for New England, Cascadia, and Minnesota?

You do understand that we have different currency, right? The Canadian dollar is only worth $0.84 USD right now. That means that a $2000 USD guitar is going to cost about $2400 CAD even before duties and taxes and such are figured in.

I'd be agreeable to any deal that would take Bill Belichick and the Patriots off our hands...
