Default D28s are $3100 Now In Canada!

Whew. Did the prices ever go up over the past few years. I remember that the D28 was about 2200 when I first looked at them. I paid 2200 for my D18, and 2200 for the D35 and that was like maybe 3 years ago.

I checked the local dealer today and yep, $3100 for D28 now! Add 15% tax to that here in Canada and well, you can see where I am going.

Have they gone up that much all over? I was a little shocked.

If one were going to purchase a D28, what options exist in Canada? Used is hard to come by.

Thanks!

I am so glad I am done buying additional guitars. Prices have been creeping up slowly. I think my HD28V used to go for $3099 as quoted on Musician's Friend, now it's $3499 on MF ? That's more than the D18GE went for in those days, seems the GE hasn't inflated as much. Maybe because of the Authentic Line , that's about 3 to 4 years ago ,

$2200 * 1.2 relative increase in USD vs. CAD in past 3 years * (1.03)^3 = 1.1 three years inflation = $2904 CAD today. Dutch disease doesn't look so bad when you're buying foreign made goods....

Looks like Martin increased price by $200 (about 10%) if you factor out currency changes and three years of general inflation and ignore the other bazillion factors that affect pricing.

Long & McQuade lists a new D28 online for $3129.

Guitarworks here in Calgary has a lightly used D28 listed online for $3000 (plus 5% GST if you pick it up yourself).

Save $530 by buying it in Alberta (technically you should pay Ontario PST when you return to Ontario, but you will be the first person to ever actually do so), give that money to WestJet and get a "free" trip to Calgary and a Martin guitar.

Are you saying you want Canadian children to starve to death as a result of cheating the Gov 't ?? Obviously if he can afford another guitar he should pay his fair share of taxes....

Taxes are applied the moment the guitar crosses the border....The Government wants their taxes.

Just had tookalook Guitar Center has a D28 Dreadnaught Standard series for $2,499.00US

$2,499.00US converted at todays rate = $2,995.55 CND

That is before shipping ~$200.00 + brokerage fees + 15% tax.

Either way it a loose loose situation for us Canadians.

I will gladly pay our marginally higher prices up here in Canada for the privilege of living in the greatest country in the world.

You can keep your low prices and crime south of the border.

Who the heck are the Lightening ??? More and more I hear all these foreign names in NHL Hockey ?

Aren't there only 4 teams in the NHL ? Maple Leafs / Canadians / Canucks and the Flames ?

H

Anaheim ? What sort of Hockey Team is that ? Playing in 90 degree heat right now ? Totally confusing - Hockey belongs in the Northern Hemisphere - sorry folks
