Steve Wildey's last gig...
To S. Florida folks, and others across the country, I've learned this morning that Steve Wildey did pass away last night.
Steve was a tremendous fingerstyle player, and a dear friend to any number of builders, Mark Blanchard, Paul Woolson, and many more. I saw the news via his very-close friend Kath Myers, and from Paul Woolson this morning on Facebook. Sigh. Steve and I shared the stage several times at the various guitar festivals, and his upbeat/energetic musical approach seemed to be ever-present as he also fought a long battle with cancer. Recently, and due to the cancer (treatments) he needed a double-lung transplant. Steve also had a shop in S. Florida, and was active in the concert scene when he was healthy. A cool dude, for sure. He will be missed.

I'm so, so sorry ...
I stumbled upon Steve at Glades Guitars in 2007 when I was having problems with fret buzz on a Gibson SWD that GC and Sam Ash couldn't resolve. Steve, of course, sorted it out almost instantly. From that point, he became my tech and guitar advisor until he first got sick and withdrew. But aside from his amazing talents as a luthier, tech and guitar player, he was such nice, great guy. Funny, warm, wise, always loads of time for anyone who came in and spoke to him. Dam. This one hurts ... |

Oh No!
Thank Larry for posting this and putting up the videos. As you mentioned Steve was a dear friend to many builders and although we had not been in touch in a while, I will value the time we did spend together in Newport and Healdsburg. Monster player and a great guy. Yes he will be missed. My thoughts a prayers to his family, the glades gang and the other people Steve’s spirit touched. |

Wow.... I knew Steve a couple years ago and he was my wife's guitar teacher. I was just thinking about Steve the other day wondering how he was doing. Very sad news. Thanks for sharing.

I thought I was a really good player until I met Steve about ten years ago. He shut my mouth and opened up my eyes and ears.
The world is a quieter and more somber place when people like him are laid to rest. Best wishes to Steve's friends and family from an ardent fan. Matt

I worked with Steve on his website a few years back, in addition to meeting him at Healdsburg. A great guy and a great player to be sure.

Hi Larry,
I've been aware of Steve's illness (via Facebook), and had contributed to a Fund Me just last week, trying to help defray some of the costs of a lung transplant, but alas, he was too weak at that point. I spent an afternoon at Steve's store with Michael Wong, Jim Fishman, and, perhaps, Marc Durso, a long time back. Steve was a gracious & good-humored host. He will be missed, most definitely. HE |

Let me make clear that Steve and I were casual/music friends...many in the community, Mark Blanchard, Kath Myers, Paul Woolson, and more, were very-close to Steve. I was happy to share the stage w/Steve a number of times, and I did want the AGF to see this news...but Steve had many closer friends than I. I don't want to misrepresent things here. I will say that it has been one hell of a 30 day stretch for *me*, and now the loss of Steve Wildey does truly suck. Hug your friends and loved ones, and play as much music as you can, folks...
