But he can read tab. He can write tab. And by that I mean he can write out riffs and songs on paper sitting in the car. And if I play it later, it's a legitimate composition. It doesnt' jump keys. It's the 12 bar format he loves. But he would have a heck of a time figuring out you are my sunshine.

You sure? Or are you expecting a divorce? I mean, yeah, it's a jaunty little tune and the chorus sounds loved up but really, it's a very dark song. The lyrics are from the POV of a man whose wife has left him for another man and he's so wet that all he can say is to offer to take all the blame if she comes back. Really wallowing in self-pity which is never an attractive look.

My ladies and I do an arrangement that combines:
Beyond Here Lies Nothing (Dylan) and alternates verses with the You Are My Sunshine chorus - in a MINOR key. It is a very cool arrangement. The chorus complements the lyrics of Beyond Here, and we call it "Beyond here lies Sunshine" the neatest thing we think we do is on the last verse, one of us sings Beyond Here and the other Sings You are - goosebumps, I'm telling you, goosebumps! There's one discordant spot that you have to just keep moving over and the overall effect - did i mention goosebumps? The You Are song is down right maudlin if you really dig into the verses and the minor key really sets it off. Am, Dm, Em I'll try and record it next time we jam on it. CHeers

I'll always love you and make you happy If you will only say the same But if you leave me to love another, You'll regret it all one day Well, I think you have the tense wrong. It's about a man begging her not to leave him. But, the same logic applies. Groveling.

You told me once dear, you truly loved me and no-one could come between. but now you've left me to love another You have shattered all my dreams. So I think the tense is a movable feast. Incidentally, I've just tried Amy's suggestion of doing it as a ballad in A minor. Totally transforms it. Still grovelling though. Makes you want to shout, "Hey Jimmie! Get up off your ****** knees." Or is that just me?
