314ce Strings?
What strings are you using on your 314ce? Has your 314ce opened up since you've bought it?
Thanks, In the illustrious words of Alberto! OK Bye Now. |

I use the Elixer Nanoweb Lights. They a mellow and (I think) are a nice foil to the natural brightness of my 314ce. I can't really tell how much the guitar has opened up; but it does sound great - the trebles really ring out nice and the bass is tight.

The reason I ask is because I just tried Martin SP Phosphors on my 314ce and it changed the tone drastically from the Elixirs. I was wondering how such a little change could effect the tone so much. If my 314ce should open up it is going to be a real heck of a guitar!

Well for a start the Elixers are coated while the Martins arent. This alone affects the tone ALOT - Your Martin strings should sound alot brighter and a bit more jangly (while they are new) for the 1st couple of days until they've full stretched and lost that 'new string sound' IMHO the elixers really don't sound very good compared to a good set of uncoated strings.
Just make sure you're using 12's NOT 11's as you will get much more tone out the slightly higher gauge. I'd recommend Newtone strings... I've had mine on now for about 3 weeks (played avery day) and they still sound good after bunging on a set for the 1st time. Great sustain and they sound fantastic! |

I also use Martin SP PB 0.12s....they rock! The strings you use will totally affect the tone. I really didn't like the feel or the sound of the Elixirs. I pretty much change my strings after every gig, which means 2-4 times a week. They lose their brilliance after just one show, but they rarely break, unlike a lot of other brands I've tried. The quality of the Martins seems better than most brands. Just MHO...
