Default Performing artist union

I had check to see if I could join the union, but I read that you have to have your work performed on a public medium. Does posting my stuff on Acidplanet count as a performance? Just wondering.

Just out of curiosity, why did you want to join a union? Are there union only venues in your area or are you wanting to play a lot of weddings, etc?

You don't need to be in the Musicians Union in the UK to play weddings. The MU is more for professional musicians in orchestras etc who need to regulate things like payments for rehearsal, overtime, travel expenses etc. I joined years ago, but as a semi pro function band muso, it did nothing for me, so I didn't bother renewing my membership.

From what I know, here on Long Island NY all catering halls oficially require for you to be in the Union. However, they are not very strict about.
