Default First post and a question

Greetings fellow string pickers and strummers

I have been playing guitar in my spare time for the past two years or so.

I started out with a Spanish guitar, a Yamaha C45, but soon switched to the electric breeds.

Currently I'm mostly practicing rhythm guitar and I attend classes once a week.

Enough of that. I'm in the market for an acoustic, "grab and play", small body guitar to have next to the couch within arms reach.

I have fairly wide hands, short fingers, but normal sized fingertips, and a "hitchhiker's" thumb. The later means I can flip the thumb backwards to an angle of 90 degrees (looks creepy), but only about 45 degrees forwards. This makes the F-chord+thumb wrap over almost impossible for me unless I'm playing on a thin/narrow neck.

Can anyone recommend an easy playing OM/000 sized guitar, perhaps with cw, at around USD 300-800, new or used?

Cheers

-J

I have a Guild F-130 that I love. It's an OM all solid Sitka and mahogany, low profile neck but with a 1 3/4 nut. New they go about $150 less than your top dollar. Definitely give them a look.
Oh and welcome to the forum!

What's "cw" - a a cutaway?

300-800, new or used is a pretty wide margin. I assume you are also saying you want a thin neck profile.

Do you prefer all solid woods? What nut width? What tonewoods do you prefer?

Without more info you will get limited useful feedback.

When I think OM's w/thin neck profiles I think: Larrivee, Blueridge and Guild GAD

CW = cutaway. Not really a must.

Definitely a thin profile for these short fingers.

I have been reading a lot of good things about sitka in terms of tone.

As for the nut width, that is the one where I'm a bit unsure. I will probably have to try out some guitars before deciding.

The price is a difficult one. I live in EU which means prices may differ a lot from the US (you people always seen to get the best picks over there ).

I know it's not a lot to go by so I'm mostly trying to get ideas and inspiration.

You can get a used Taylor 312 in that range. Excellent playability.

Welcome to the family. A ton of people will suggest a lot of good options. At that price point you have a lot to chose from, especially if you're cool with buying used.
