!!!Problem!!! Changed my strings...
and now my high e sounds like a sitar. Fretted there is no buzz but open...buzz buzz buzz. What happened? I used a different brand string but the same gauge...any diagnosis out there? Help!

Is it seated in the nut slot properly? If it is a lighter gauge string, it might be too LOW in the nut slot and buzzing against the first fret?
Also check that the bridge pin is in securely, and if there is a pre made groove in the bridge saddle, that the string is sitting nicely within the groove. |

Definitley too low in the the nut. I tried a bit of pencil lead but it didn't really work...

Sounds like you need to restring it / try a different string. Perhaps that will seat it differently in the slot.

Last time that happened to me...my Snark was buzzing against a tuning post. May be a stupid answer...but you never know.

Well it would be a possibility, but I took my Snark off and it's STILL buzzing!

I'll try that, Dru. Thanks.

If the nut slot is too deep, it's probably best to take it to a good guitar tech to fill it in and re-cut it to proper depth. |

A temporary fix (and a quick way to check slot depth) is to loosen the string enough to slip a small piece of paper, maybe even folded double, into the slot. Seat the string over this paper and bring it up to pitch. If the buzz is gone, you know it is a slot depth problem.

De-tune the guitar, pull the pin out, and re-seat it. The ball-end might be held up against the bottom of the pin and not seated to the bridge plate. Another thing to look at is the hex washers on the headplate on the headstock. Not just the one on your e-string post; all of them.

Thanks all. I tried all the remedies above. I think it was a neck problem, because there was also some fret buzz here and there prior to the string change. I brought it to GC and treaded it for a Yamaha. See my NGD thread.
