Interesting! Similarly, I am no fan of the octave G. What gauge do you use to make it unison? Di you use another wound G and have the nut recut? What's your setup? TIA!

Don't play allot of 12 string anymore. But, cut my acoustic teeth on 12's.

Back before clip on tuners, I would consistently break the octave G. I began tuning the #5 string to a 3rd.

Anymore I have gone back to octaves. But I tend to play 12ers in either drop D or open D or G.

Thats me

I bought my first 12 string when I was 16, I think. I have owned one, almost continuously, since. That's been a long time, too. Like 6L6 in post #3. I never really changed anything on my 12 strings. Except occasionally I will tune to open G or D.

I like it fine. It arrived needing no adjustments and sounds good. It is a limited run by Fender in Fiesta Red. But I probably won't be playing it that much, I've just always wanted a hockey-stick Fender.

I’ve had numerous 12-string acoustics on and off over the decades. A lot of Ovations, currently a Seagull. I agree that having g as the highest note seems odd. I think it would be interesting to do all six pairs as octaves but available string gauges and scale length would be impediments. I recently decided to learn mandolin. Although the strings are unison pairs, the range is high so there is a little bit of that shimmer that I was imagining for the guitar.

I used to have a Del'Arte "leadbelly" 26.5" scale,tuned to B or C.

Both strings on the third course were wound . didn't make much difference.

That's one reason that I wont go lighter than EJ37s and M190s. Frankly, I don't really feel happy with having a .010" string on an acoustic, but they are mostly OK.
