now let me think....

...nope, I don't really fancy it. Now if it were a Taylor GC9 I'd gladly stump up the folding.

Our AGF Rule 2 says that we don't discuss guitar prices. It's pretty clear. However, I have a hard time justifying the thought that this is an actual price for this guitar. I mean, I was going to bid, but I stopped for three reasons:
1. Thats just the starting bid price. Undoubtedly, there will be lots of bids toward the end of the auction, and I'm afraid the bidding frenzy would heat up to extraordinary levels.
2. Why, it don't even come with no case, no strap or even the all important unfilled-out Warrenty Card! No pickup, neither. I suppose I could do my own cutaway job... Besides, I don't never bid on no guitar on eBay lessen it's ad includes the word "Minty." Fortunately, that doesn't eliminate all that many.
3. I'm not so sure it's a genuwine Martin. It ain't got their decal.

Oh yeah, one more reason: I'm not a collector with very deep pockets.

I suppose we can let this guitar be an exception to our Rule 2, but don't count on it every time.

There has been a fair bit of discussion about this over at the UMGF.
The vendor is apparently legit as is his collection. Some at the UMGF have dealt with him in person.
His MO appears to be to list at extrememly high prices (to ensure that there are no bids) on ebay and then do deals offline. This effectively means that ebay is a free advertising vehicle for him as he nevers pays them a seller's commission.
A number of comments at the UMGF point to this vendor not being the nicest guy in the world, but at the same time not being dishonest.

Sure, but would those be guitars "favored by celebrities such as Roy Rogers"? I think not!

DANG! I just blew my last 4 mil on this Ferrari: http://ads.seriouswheels.com/listing...esta_Rosa.html, and a 28 room, 8 bath, indoor swimming pool and spa mansion in Fairfax, VA. Oh--yeah--Les Paul's original "Les Paul," and some picks once used by Frank Zappa. Then I see THIS on Ebay! Oh well, maybe next time.

Ebay does charge a fee based on opening price too. So he must have paid handsomely just to list that?

Anybody notice it doesn't say this WAS Roy's guitar, only that the model was favored by celebrities LIKE Roy.

That makes it essentially an old guitar, albeit somewhat rare. Is it worth that much money? Only the buyer can decide.

For an extra $99.99 Estaban will throw in an amplifier, two sets of strings, and even sign it for you.

While I don't agree with the asking price on eBay, it's probably not going to be too far off when it does sell.

Seem to remember when Hank Risan had that guitar it was considered the most expensive acoustic out there. Doubt that status has changed.

I think the price is silly. But then again, what do I know about vintage? After 25 years, the prices have risen dramatically. The good stuff is worth more than I could have imagined.

Thumbs up Nice guitar!

"Ultimate GAS Killer"? I doubt it. Guitar players are a fickle bunch. Some are hardly ever satisfied with their gear!
