Default Post your custom order GS guitar here...

Hi guys,

Just wondering what are the different custom options you have ordered for your GS guitar. Pls post here if you have already placed a custom order for a GS.
Pls note that this thread is not for posting your dream specs but for actual ordered specs.

Thanks!

So this order is like in-between what your asking for and what you don't want to hear hehehe. I actually gave a deposit(all be it a small one) to my local dealer so that the second it becomes avaliable in a year or two, I will have it!
GS Koa/Sitka
Cutaway
ES
blank fret board
maple binding(body,neck,headstock)
koa headstock overlay
12-string

My GSRS is stock except for ebony toner buttons, but if I was to order a GS in a custom version, I'd like to see one with walnut/spruce.

Here's what I ordered last week:

GS adi/rosewood
no cutaway
2-piece back
mini-wedge
brazilian headstock overlay
brazilian trussrod cover
figured mahogany neck
1 11/16" nut
short scale
slim carve neck
bone nut and saddle
figured maple binding
900 series rosette
blank fretboard
Gotoh tuners
ES
honey sunburst top

It's all about beautiful tone woods and playability for me. Can't say enough about Jim at Guitar Rodeo. I'm a high maintenance customer. I realized that after having another dealer return my deposit a few years ago because I kept pestering him with questions and changes after the order had been placed. Jim is very patient and helpful. Great prices and customer service.

CyrilW,

I am also eyeing almost similar specs as yours, but with a cutaway option.
Mind dropping me a PM abt the price that Jim quoted you?
Thanks!

Not to be contrary but I LOVE the GSRS. I wanted one bad because I love the sound. But I would have to have made too many changes to get the appearance I wanted. I don't prefer the headstock and would have wanted an overlay. I wanted a cutaway but felt it was sacrilege to order a cutaway on a GS. I wanted a sunburst. I wanted nicer inlays.

So I ordered this:

815c

florentine cutaway (even though I don't like it as much as the standard jumbo cutaway, I thought it was more unique and reminds me of an archtop Gibson one of my teachers had)

Tobacco Sunburst

Rosewood B/S

Sitka Spruce top

Headstock overlay is standard rosewood (but I really wanted ebony...)

The surprise came when Jim at GR told me the binding would be upgraded to maple for 2007. If I had known that, I might have gotten a 3 piece back with maple wedge.

If it doesn't sound as good as a GSRS, I will be bummed. I gotta hand it to CyrilW. That guy REALLY knows what he wants. Way to go. I can't wait to see pic's of that.

The prospect of a custom order GS has really got me drooling. After looking at the new Taylor build to order sheet I want.....

a honey sunburst mahogany/sitka GS.

that is today. I'm sure that by tommorow I'll have another custom configuration dreamed up.

Thanks Macfawlty. I've been on a Taylor odyssey for quite a while now. It's taken me 9 different guitars to figure out what I really want. Told my wife that this is finally it, but she knows better.

My second Taylor was a '95 815c, florentine with a mustache bridge. That's one I'd love to have back.

As much as I love my maple GS I would like a gloss ovangkol model.

I am also considering a GS with EIR and premium Adirondack spruce top with cutaway, short scale, 1 11/16", slim neck and flamed maple binding.

Just checking, since the current GS comes default with Ivoroid binding, shouldn't I just be paying the difference between the cost of upgrading from plastic to Ivoroid and Flamed maple? Rather than the full cost of upgrading to flamed maple alone?

Here's what I just ordered from Jim at Guitarrodeo.com

AA Flamed maple back/sides
2-piece back (no wedge)
Premium Englemann spruce top
Wood Koa 3-ring rosette (like 500/700 series)
No pickguard
Flamed maple binding (body, neck, peghead)
Standard peghead
Ebony headstock overlay and truss rod cover
Figured maple neck (slim carve profile)
All above with glossy natural finish
Short scale
1-7/8" bone nut and saddle
Ebony bridge pins
No peghead inlay or bridge inlay
Blank fretboard (no dots or inlay)
510 Gotoh Antique Gold Tuners
Strap Button
Elixir Light strings

Edit: how could I forget? I also added the ES.

Hopefully the guitar back/sides/binding will look something like this Larrivee:

SongwriterFan, you're going to have to post photos when you receive it as well as a recording or two so you may want to get ready for that. When do you expect the guitar to be ready?

I may have to hire somebody to play it if you want a recording.

I was told that orders are running about 4 to 6 weeks right now, but no definite date has been established yet.

I predict it'll be extremely late March or early April, since I'll be out of town for about a week.
