I used to use Fender light/thin picks and loved they clean, crisp sound they produced, but would sometimes break 2 or 3 a session. I switched to Dunlop Nylon, I think .74 mm. Haven't broken one yet...and I love them...

I like the Dunlop nylon picks too. The textured gripping surface keeps them from getting slippery. Pretty much indestructible. Good tone and feel to the string attack. I got a big box of them in various thicknesses 10 yrs ago and will probably pass it on to my great great grandchildren since they never seem to wear out.
But yeah, all picks disappear into the 4th dimension when they drop on the floor. Like socks in the dryer. Tim |

I also use the Tortex and find that the tips usually round off long before the ink lable wears down. At that point, I normally toss them in my case (as a back-up) or keep them in my pocket.
At Open Mic nights, where NOBODY seems to ever bring their picks, I loan them one of the old Tortex picks. Funny how when you do that they often never seem to come back to me... so I guess that's my way of disposing of them.

I know we're talking plectrums (plectri?) here, but I wear out thumbpicks regularly. But I also have a real tortiseshell pick from the 30's that is still in good shape. (no, I'm not advocating the use of endangered species - I just happened to find one in my grandfathers stuff, along with a 1920 1-21 Martin)

I use the orange tortex or whatever and I wear them out really quick. I don't know about you guys, but I chew on my picks all the time. But the more worn out, the better I like them. I have trouble playing brand new picks, I have to chew on them a little get a bend in them.

You just have to flip the guitar over, and shake them out. Back in business!

I would have to say that I have never worn a pick out. I actually still have picks that I used when starting to play guitar 32 years ago. Yes I hoard, but only guitars and related stuff. Those picks are still very useable (jim dunlop .73mm).

I've only worn out a few, really... but I tend to lose them so fast I can never really be sure!
Then again, they look nice after they have gone through the washer
