I would get a Martin custom with Torrefied top. The authentics neck and I do not get along. They sound nice but not for me. I have a custom with torrefied top that is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard.

I voted Martin based solely on resale potential, and the likelihood of value appreciation over time.

With instruments of this quality, all performance/tonal differences are subjective and nebulous.

Martin D28A 1941
With Adi/Madagascar as a wood combo, it's my favorite. I'm sure Adi/Brazilian would be better but not affordable.

I voted the Martin, solely because it's the one of the 3 I've played, and I was impressed with it. Haven't played the variants of the Collings or Bourgeois, though every guitar I've played by those builders HAS impressed me. It would all come down to the individual guitar and how it "spoke" when I played it.

For me Santa Cruz, Huss and Dalton and Martin would always come before Bourgeois and Collings. I've found that I don't like the way Bourgeois and Collings voice their dreadnoughts. To much mid range and treble for me.

Same here with the exception of my Collings D2HMRA with 80/20's on it - they can pull the bass out front, with some 92/8's it can come across a little more mid rangy and the bass steps back a bit.

I would add both Huss & Dalton and Santa Cruz to the mix but, unless I can play each of them, I wouldn't begin to try and make a choice.

Best,
Jayne

No preference among that group. Cooked tops aren't my thing.
