Default Martin HD-28VS... Deal?

So I picked up a 2005 Martin HD-28vs for $2599 CAD, which is roughly $2136 USD.

Nearly mint, with case, sounds great.

Was this a decent score? Or is this about how much they go for these days? And does anyone have any specific likes/dislikes about these?

PS also came equipped with a K&K western mini installed, which I know nothing about, but I generally put the LR Baggs M1A in my guitars.

I like Martin's Vintage Series guitars and prefer them over the GE and Authentic lines. I think they are just better all-round guitars. The HD-28V and HD-28VS are as good a guitar as Martin makes and they have always been one of my favorites. Congratulations and enjoy your new guitar.

I'd say that's a pretty good deal. I sold mine to a gentleman in Vancouver a couple years back, and still miss it! Fantastic guitars!

You very well may! Does it have a UMGF sticker on the case? The buyer came down to Seattle to buy it from me. If it's my old HD28VS, it's a great one!

Congrats! I've never owned one, but I've really liked every HD-28VS I've ever played.

Awesome guitars. I had a 2009 HD28VS, all around great guitar, and a powerful finger picking machine with mean bass. I paid about $2100, so that's probably close to market standard. You will enjoy playing that Martin! I sold mine after I was gifted a similar Collings DS-1, but actually did not like the Collings nearly as much and sold it. Now, bummed out.

Congrats and enjoy!

I've bought and sold many Martin Guitars over the past twenty years and the only one I still regret selling was the HD-28VS. Just a killer Guitar in every respect, a real powerhouse. Huge bottom end. I sold it to fund a new D-28A with the non VTS finish. The Authentic is a superior Guitar but I miss that VS.

If you find that you don't bond with this Guitar do PM me

I think you got a great deal. The only Vintage series I own is a 00-28VS and it is a fantastic guitar. I bought it used in 2011 and paid a bit more than you did.

I think You'll be happy with the K&K but it will sound much better if you run it through a pre-amp. I have used a Fishman pro eq II for years and am very happy with the sound even though that is not the recommended choice of many. K&K and a couple of others make pre amps that are supposed to be a better match.

Congrats on a fine purchase, I love my HD-28VS. I don't know the market in Canada, but that sounds like a good price to me.
