Default NGD - A funny thing happened at GC today...

Had some time to kill before an appointment today, so I stopped in my local GC for a bit. Went to the "high-end" room, which sadly isn't so high-end anymore, and nothing there was too inspiring. Started playing some less expensive models...Yamaha, Fender, Epiphone, Ovation...and was actually more impressed with some of them--especially a Yamaha 830 model (I think).

I was about to leave and was drawn to the looks of this smaller bodied mahogany guitar. Turns out it was an Ibanez Artwood model AC240-OPN. It was on the top hanger, so the sales person had to get it down for me. It was really cool looking, and very clean inside & out. It's an all-mahogany guitar with a solid top, 1.77" nut width, 2.20" string spacing @ saddle., 24.9" scale, rosewood fingerboard & bridge, X-bracing, dovetail neck joint, bone nut & saddle, and an equivalent body size to a Martin 000/OM.

I sit down, tune 'er up, strum a simple chord progression, and can't believe what I'm hearing. I do a little fingerstyle noodling and everything is just right with this guitar...great feelings neck, plays incredibly well, sounds big, and beautiful mahogany tone for days! I seriously can't believe it, so I take it to 3-4 other areas of the store to make sure it was nothing to do with room acoustics, etc., and nope, sounds great everywhere. I have a couple other folks play it for me to get the listeners perspective, and it sounds incredible...in fact, one of the guys said, "If you don't buy that, I am, so PLEASE don't buy it."

So here I am...not at all looking for a guitar; in fact, I'm actually trying to pare down. But, this guitar is pretty darn amazing, and here's the kicker...READY... $299.99!!! I don't know anything about Ibanez acoustics, so I don't know if this is characteristic of them or just an anomaly, but I don't care. I'm weak, I'm smitten, and I have no choice but to buy it! Sales person says, "Let me see if we have one unopened in the back", and I say, "Absolutely not...I want THIS ONE!". Salesman throws in a nice freebie micro-fiber wiping cloth, and I pick up a set of Retro's to try, since it needed new strings and every mahogany guitar I've had sounds great with them. This was a good day--beyond surprising and took me completely off guard--but a good day indeed!

Wow that is almost the same thing that happened to me a couple years ago!
(except I bought the one that was in the unopened box. They're THAT GOOD)

If you didn't get a case for it, Roadrunner makes a classical guitar sized case that fits it like a glove.
I think this is the one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Road-Run...ssical-Case.gc

Enjoy!

HNGD! I need to check these out again. The couple of times I've played one at GC, I wasn't smitten, but folks seem crazy about them. Maybe I'm just not calibrated to hog tops. The AVC6DTS seems to be the same basic guitar with a solid Sitka top, and the one I played a few times seemed outrageously good for the price.

Congrats!

I keep eyeing those every time I pop into GC. Now I'll have to try one.

Cheap guitar hanging way up high... most likely someone parked it up there so it wouldn't get found. That's what they get for thinking it over :-).
