For a quick easy setup, I’ve loved this. I think it sounds great.

Hi guys. So I've got my Focusrite studio bundle here.

Could it be acceptable to record my voice + guitar through the condenser mic, for my purposes? Or do folk generally plug the guitar into the secondary input on the audio interface?

Thanks for this Kevin. I just checked out your video, which sounds fantastic (nice song and performance too!) and checked out a lot more information on the Audigo and just ordered one for my coming birthday... Looks like a really interesting product that will solve a lot of issues for me at once...

Both vocals and guitar will sound better recorded with a mic. Guitar pickups won't give you a natural acoustic sound, typically. You can make fine recordings with just a single mic, but you will need to experiment with mic placement to get the good guitar tone and the correct balance between guitar & vocals.

Does that setup limit you to a single mic?
Listening to your YT video, your vocals could benefit greatly from some compression. There are a couple of places where your voice gets lost. Some evening out would help that but you'd need a second mic to do it.

I've been looking into this Audigo setup and it can record with up to four mics at once. With the subscription plan, it also gives you a compression tool to work with on individual tracks as well, but I'm pretty sure that feature isn't supported without the subscription plan ($8 / month).

Yeah multiple mics can be used now.

They hadn’t added compression when I recorded this.

Thanks.

What Chipotle said, for now I would start with recording both voice and guitar thru the condenser mic
It's quick and easy single track recording and you get started headed down the long road of recording
Depending on the actual level that sing at compared to relative to how loud ply the guitar there will be a vertical positioning that will balance the two

To start with try with top of mic a few inches below you chin then adjust accordingly to the balance you want
Later on you can experiment with plugging in the guitar

I’ve been doing self recording for a while now but I’m still not happy with my setup. Or I get it where I want it and make a few recordings but then the stuff gets moved by my manager, eh hmm, wife, and I’m back at zero.

I really like my Blue Snowball plugged directly into my iPhone for quick recordings.

But also got a Tascam 4 track recorder that records to SD card, running a Sennheiser mic into it.

Like others have said, mic placement is the most important part for getting vocals and guitar balanced…I’ve found it very tricky to get this right.

Other issues are room noise, background noise, chair noise, singing in tune lol, not screwing up, etc. lots of things to keep you busy.

I have a couple of Audigos, and yeah, they are fantastic!

Here’s my first foray into Audigo recording. One Audigo on my voice, the other on an acoustic amp. The picture looks a little fuzzy because with that revision of the software, it would default to a very light hungry 60fps. That problem has been fixed since then:
