Help calling GAS Anonymous members…. Martin or Taylor..
Help calling GAS Anonymous members….
I’m getting really bad GAS for a Martin OMC Aura but it would entail selling my 814CE to finance it. Initially I disliked the tone of the 814ce it was just too bright and the B string was really metallic sounding, that’s why I went searching for a replacement. But lately, after fitting a new tusq saddle and Elixir Phospher Bronze strings it is really starting to speak to me, it seems to be already opening up and developing a nice bass and a smooth tone not to mention it is a joy to play. (even though I’ve only owned it 3 months) and the B string is no longer exhibiting the metallic sound it had with the bone saddle fitted On the other hand, I played the Martin OMC Aura and loved the feel and the looks of the guitar and the thought of a new guitar just gnaws at my gut I want it!!! So that’s the dilemma, which guitar to choose for mainly fingerstyle and the occasional stumming? Why are there so many guitars and not enough money; Is there any end to this GAS……

I see no problem here at all, it is simple, keep the 814CE and, buy the Martin OMC Aura. Or, ignore my advice and for the rest of your life wish you'd listened to what I'm trying to tell you.

I reccommend you continue to read these forums and visit your local guitar store will you havea full blown case of GAS. Once you start aquiring guitars, TAS may fade.... You're welcome Pork

Don't sell the 814, just save for the Aura.

The models are very comparable to each other.
Keep the 814, ditch the Aura idea for now. |

Sell the Taylor and buy the Martin and don't look back.
It sounds (bad pun) like the Martin really spoke to you and the Taylor may be speaking now, but it has taken some fiddling around. Take the Martin that speaks to you now, do the same experimenting with strings, saddle and bridge pins and it will REALLY speak to you. Just my .02 worth. Jeff |

I'm with TBman. I'd save for the new guitar. I'd tell you the same thing if you already owned the Martin and were thinking of a Taylor or Gibson or Breedlove, etc. For one thing, the 814 is a real "butt kicker" of a guitar. Be it a Taylor, a Martin, a Gibson, whatever, they are all different and fill a particular part of what "we" need in a guitar. I'm just giving my personal view, but for me, top of the line Taylors and Martins, etc. are really special guitars. I'd try like hell to have both of them. Then, you could start saving for a Hummingbird..lol....Seriously, keep the Taylor and save for the Martin. They're both great guitars.

You probably need the proceeds of one to buy the other, right? Ideally, it would be nice to have both the Taylor and Martin in the house simultaneously, and possibly defer for a reasonable period of time ridding yourself of the 814. I dunno if that's realistic, but you may find both have intangible (or tangible!) qualities neither one posseses entirely on its own (I'm not saying this very well!). Anyhow...you get the drift.

1) The body size is different - Aura is smaller (and more comfortable to play IMO) 2) Unplugged tone is different (although perhaps not dramatically different). 3) The plugged in tone is very very different. No comparison. 4) Aura has a nice built-in tuner feature. 5) Aura has the darned barn-door There are other differences, but those are tops on my hit list. I just acquired an Aura and am really enjoying it. It is supereasy to play - easier than my OMC28V. (Must be the thinner neck and action.)The real test will be how well it does at the next open mic - I can't wait.
