I recommend a drop of soap and a soft clean cloth water wet and wrung out. Do not rub hard enough to scratch or dent the finish. Immediately dry with a clean dry soft cotton cloth. Do not leave standing water, and if doing this once is not enough, do it more than once, but complete all steps each time.

Some say to use wax (lemon pledge!) but on a decent instrument I cannot agree. It changes the surface hardness and affects the sound adversely, IMO. In the violin world it is considered a travesty.
