Default D35 on Craigslist with ??

http://semo.craigslist.org/msg/5363869978.html

You be the judge. I did talk to the individual and the story goes something like.....the neck was replaced and in the process the serial number was lost.

If his dad is the original owner and allowed that to happen as well as no documentation. ??

Very tempting price wise.....be a lot of explaining to anyone down the road.

Default Martin?

IIRC, the serial number is on the headblock in the body of the guitar.

If they replace the neck the headblock stays.

I'd insist on having the guitar looked at by an Authorized Martin repair person before completing the transaction.

But that's just me........

I'd go play it and see how it sounds..

Offer them $200 !

Kinda strange about the serial #... that is on the inside of the guitar... not on the neck?
Plus what's all this about buying guitar direct at factory... didn't know Martin did this either.

Smells a bit fishy......

The original listing had more pictures, but worse lighting.

Can't get a guitar at the Martin factory. Maybe stolen?

Why no picture of the from top the headstock in the listing? That's a red flag right there. Wasn't there someone who posted a similar thread about a D35 that some guy initially listed on CL for a ton of money that had a scratched off logo on the headstock, claiming it was a Martin "factory 2nd", and after being called out dropped their price to $300. This seems very familiar to that particular guitar.

How do you even know it's a Martin? Lots of research to do on that one, and without a serial number, no way to verify anything. If it's a cheap foreign copy, it's hardly even worth 200!

As the previous discussion of this ad explains correctly, it's a cheap Shenendoah second and a SCAM.

If you can flag the CL ad for being fraudulent, please do so. I did, but it takes more than one report to get it pulled.

Go play it. If it's a Martin you'll be able to tell it. Assuming you know what a Martin sounds like. But I'm skeptical. But if it plays and sounds good it would be at least a decent porch guitar.

Edit: I wonder if it's one of their kit guitars. They do not come with a logo, or serial numbers. If it is a kit it's worth the asking price. Like I said go play it, you'll know if it's worth 300 bucks. It's located in southeast Missouri. So while there is a chance it's a scam, there aren't a lot of guitar scammers located in southeast Missouri posting ads on Craigslist.

Shouldn't there be a Martin logo branded in to one of the back braces that would easily be seen through the sound hole? The bass side brace definitely doesn't have it and it looks like the treble side doesn't either but it's a little hard to tell because of the shadow. The current Martin D-35's have it on the bass side.

I say, "NOT a Martin."

I thought... "that guitar looks a lot like the one in the scuffed headstock thread? LOL .

The seller is a crook IMO.

He is about 120 miles from me so not really wanting to go to the trouble with all the questions marks. I read the other thread stating he had originally blamed the logo removal on a grandson. If that contradiction is true then that takes me out.

Let's all be real. If any of us on here knew it was an authentic D35 in that shape, we wouldn't take less than 800.00 but rather keep it.
Further reading on other thread, realize I am about 5 days late on this. Wow, the D3532 Shenandoah sure is a nice cousin. Bet it is a pretty good guitar in its own right.
