Even with a 00 body short scale lenght, even in Eb, i really like my 0018 for strumming.
Maybe the adirondack top give me the extra headroom i need.
Not heavy strumming, of course.
But moderated to medium strumming itīs sweet.

Only one vote so far for a used Martin CEO-7? There have been enough sold now that they are coming up for sale more often on the used market, and they fit your criteria well. The Adirondack top and braces give it a little more "umph," and the size should be exactly what you are looking for if you are willing to adapt to a 1.75" nut.

I have looking at Larrivees online, but their 000 are a 25.5 scale and don't have that artist taper that I would be looking for in a 1 3/4 nut guitar. So they are going to be out of my consideration.

I am probably not going to compromise on scale length although the 000-15m is very tempting to me.

More than my 2 cents worth.....I used my 000-15m in a duo with voice and keyboards. On its own, the 000-15m is a delight...but unless mic'd it can get buried with other sting instruments added to the mix. Make sure you know what your next acoustic will be playing with.....

I have definitely been eyeing the 000-18. Hard to find one in my budget though.

Any thoughts on the new 000-17. It has scalloped standard X bracing like the 18.

I have tried the Taylor 322 and it is great and is definitely on my list. I haven't been able to try one, but the 412r is pretty tempting as well.
There is a mint 412e-r in the classified section that seems like a good match and it right in your price range/

Of the small guitars mentioned above i have a lg2 american eagle and a 00-17s, which is the new 12 fret 00 17. I can say the martin is much more raw and woody/ raspy sounding than the gibson. Thats saying something too as the lil lg2 has the gibson growl but doesnt seem quite as raw. Now for sweet and smooth i have a 0-28vs custom with adi top and madi back and sides but thats not really what i would call a strummer.
I get more joy out of the little gibson than the others, but they all are nice. The lg is probably the best strummer as it can get loud but not overpowering. The 17 series gets so loud and raspy it seems like its going to just continue to gain momentum until it explodes. Sounds like its always on the ragged edge of losing control if that makes sense.
I also have a rainsong shorty which is a 12 fret cutaway, but it falls apart before it reaches half of the volume of the lg or the 00 when strummed. Its got an interesting sound but to be honest, it would find a new home if my son and i didnt wag it all over the world on camping trips, ect. It exists to preserve our wooden guitars from week long bouts of exposure in the outdoors. I rarely if ever play it when in civilization.

I have never seen one in person. But the owners rave about them and there is one in the classifieds. Halcyon 000 12 Supposed to be special? http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=436637

Default small body for strumming

Since I really liked the 000-28, will an older Martin 000-18 with straight standard braces have a similar output (granted a slightly warmer tone due to the rosewood)? Since I like the nut, neck profile and scale of the 28 then I assume I would also like the feel of the 18.

Strong contender for the best money I have ever spent on a guitar. Plenty of volume to fill a room. More than enough for vocal accompaniment and playing with all but the loudest other players. Maybe not best for a bluegrass jam but that is a job for a specialist, not an all arounder. The Schoenberg designed RP1-16C 12 fret cutaway 0 size should be the standard instead of the dread. It is an utter joy to play and will change how you view small bodies. This video is for a non cutaway version of the RK 0 sized guitars but gives a great idea of the fullness of sound from a well made 0.
I will second the Recording King RP1-16C. It really is a wonderful guitar, sounding bigger than it is. I played one and if I didn't already have a parlor guitar I would have bought it.

I forgot about that one! I played one for the first time a couple months ago and I really liked it.

Don't regret settling. If you really like the 000-28, find a 000-28 in your price range, or stretch a bit to get there.

Martin 000-15SM - put on a set of mediums and pound the living crap out of it for 3-4 months (hog tops break in differently than spruce or cedar), and you'll have a real little cannon on your hands...

Agree, I have one of Teds custom OM-15's, and after about a year of banging on it, it has turned into a little cannon! I love the way it sounds...nice and light, and small!

Larrivee OM or if you want something a bit more unique the Emerald x20...you cant go Pete Townsend on them but will hold up pretty well with some solid strumming.
