Default What's Your Current Guitar that you've Owned the Longest?

Inspired by Toby's thread about who owns the oldest vintage instruments - What current guitar have you owned the longest?

For me it's the Yairi in my sig - I got it new over 35 years ago. I've played it to death, and it sounds better and better year by year!

Mines a Martin D 1 from 97. Since then I have purchased 2 D18s and a D35 , but still enjoy the tone and feel of the D1.

1976 Alvarez, still in very good condition. Though is seldom played. Purchased new in April 1976.

Hey Mark - that's a great looking guitar. I got my first electric in 1988 and I bought my first acoustic in '89 - a Yamaha 12 string. I still own both.

Acoustic guitar-wise, I've had my Larrivee L-03R since Labor Day weekend (the Friday of) 2006.

I also have a 1967 Gibson ES335 that I've had since 1978.

Both electrics. Bought a 1967 Hagstrom new from Mongomery Wards. The 1974 Strat I bought used from a band mate in 1978. Still have em both. Also still have a Yamaha Lami acoustic since the late 70s, just don't remember the year.

Default Which of your current guitars have you owned the longest?

I bought my '79 Yamaha FG-375S Jumbo Folk new and still own it. It sounds even better today, and I love the wood marquetry around the body and rosette. That's solid Sitka, that has age nicely over the years, some have asked if it's cedar.

The 1958 Goya G-30 nylon strung folk guitar (a real gem with a bit of a cult following) which was acquired by my father in 1960. This was actually made by Levin from the days before Martin acquired that great company and ruined it and the Goya name in the process. I have played it regularly since then, as I quickly passed him as a player. He officially gave it to me 12 years ago.

I don't have any pics but it's a 1982 Guild D-40c that my bride bought me for Christmas that year.

B-45 12N, bought new in 1966. I still have it. The photo was about a dozen years later.

Mahogany/Adirondack Froggy Bottom "A" 12-fret that I bought used in 1998. I had just ordered a McAlister with the same woods, but that was a 3 year wait list, when I unexpectedly sold a car that I heretofore had been unable to sell. So one evening I have a few glasses of wine while I peruse Gruhn, Elderly, Mandolin Brothers and some other purveyors of Fine Internet Guitar Pornography. Coming across this used Froggy, I asked an online acquaintance from RMMGA to have a look at it, which, even though she had been to Buffalo Brothers the last three Saturdays in a row, she graciously agreed to do. Her email after visiting the store basically ordered me to buy the guitar. So I bought it as the "Interim Guitar," until the Mac was built. The first person to play it after I got it, Wade Hampton Miller, told me that I would never sell it, but if I ever had an attack of insanity, he would buy it. He is at the head of a pretty long list.

Still got it. Still play the snot out of it. Still got the Mac, and play the snot out of it too.

I yam so blessed...
