Default Any Mcilroy A25 owners here?

Interesting guitar. Cedar over walnut is an interesting combination.

haven't had the pleasure, but lately I've been a real fan of walnut. I can only imagine that this combination would be fantastic for my style of mostly-fingers (hesitate to call it traditional fingerstyle, but think it falls in the same dynamic category since I strum with the pad of my thumb and pick with my fingers.. not nails)

Heard several times that Lowden/McIlroy are really some of the world's finest with walnut.. would love to play one in person but they are scarce 'round my parts..

cheers

I've had my A25 for about 8 months. It's a tremendous guitar with great dynamic range-- responsive to a light touch, but also has a lot of headroom and can pump out the volume if hit hard. I love everything about it.

Sounds like the cedar top handles strumming pretty well too? That's interesting! I've been contemplating a redwood top Mcilroy as I've heard it sets in between cedar and Sitka. But you've got me thinking...

Got one since a few weeks and it amazes me how it allready sounds. The smell when the case opens is the best. Never had a walnut - cedar combinaton and i ordered it without ever playing one. Not one moment i regret this purchase. I can highly recommend this great guitar.

I've had an A25 for a couple of months now. I owned a Jumbo Sitka/Walnut Mcilroy for years and had a chance to switch it for the A25.

Both are truly outstanding guitars - I think Dermott is among the best luthiers around. The A25 is way more versatile than I would have expected - strums and fingerpicks like a boss. It has a meaty sound that I absolutely love and all the overtones Mcilroy is know for. You truly can't go wrong

I had one for a few years, a very nice guitar. I sold it to a guy who did a lot of Celtic stuff in DADGAD. He did a lot of tapping as well, which this guitar responded to very well.
Walnut is a lovely tonewood, I'm now playing a small bodied walnut and European spruce guitar from a lesser known Irish builder, and I'm very happy with it.

I played the slightly smaller version - an AS model of cedar an walnut. For sale a couple of years back on the forum. Certainly a great guitar. Had just purchased my Lowden or I would have bought the McIlroy and it would have been a keeper.

Go for it! I can guarantee you will not regret it.

I say this, having just spent another delightful time with my Mcilroy.
