My first “real” guitar- a 1972 Guild f20 Troubadour that my parents gave me for my 17th birthday. They couldn’t afford a whole lot of anything, but managed to give me that brand new guitar. I even made money playing it- and still play it now and then (too many others took its place in my lineup since then, though)

So far I’ve given away all the guitars I would never sell. I’m pretty sure the people who have them won’t sell them because they might (mistakingly) think they’re still mine. Weird guitar insurance.

Health issues with my fretting hand had/has me realistically having to quit playing guitar. I am starting to mess with them again, but. I realized that I would never sell my Waterloo WL-S Deluxe. It's been an old friend for some time.

My Dudenbostel 12 fret D-42. The best modern (post 1944) guitar I've ever played.

I can't imagine selling off my 1967 Martin D-35 that my dad bought me when I turned 21 back in 1969. It's a lovely guitar, it sounds and plays great, and it has huge sentimental value to me.

I’ve started reducing my collection of guitars for various reasons. Hand problems among them. Decided my best two that I built and my Martin 000-18 would be the ones I would never part with. My nephew had his guitars stolen so I am sending him one of my keepers. A friend in my group of pickers fell in love with my Martin and I succumbed to his pressure and sold it to him. In the mean time I bought a Taylor 710 for its ease of play and wonderful sound. I’m a failure at this culling the herd proces!

My Guild 1972 D25.
I found the guitar in a garbage can behind my house when I was 15 and had just started playing guitar. It was through some rough times (including a cave in over the top of someone's head ...) but twenthyish years later I paid a LOT of money to have it fixed up, neck reset, etc. Now it sounds better than most super high end guitars that I've played. It's actually taken some of the joy out of playing those guitar in shops, because I always think, "my Guild sounds better than this!"

Very late to the party…but mine is my Froggy Bottom H-12 All Koa. I first started getting back into playing guitars around 1998. I stumbled across the Dream Guitars site as i recall. They had a demo of Al Petteway playing a H12. I listened to it MANY times and decided it was the best sounding guitar i had ever heard. But alas, it had been sold prior. Fast forward a few years and my business was doing well…and i thought i should look for a H-12 like the one in the demo. After a bit of a search, idiscovered Folkway music had the exact guitar, exact serial number for sale. Bought it for myself for Christmas. It is the best guitar i have ever heard…so she stays and is already committed to a good friend in the event of my exit.

My 1964 D-21. Like me, it’s got a lifetime of battle scars and is currently needing some work done to it.

I can't sell my 000-28EC. It has a destiny of it's own and I am just it's current caretaker... until such time as it finds a new caretaker with which to partner, as it continues along it's winding path. The journey along that path will not be based on commerce, but rather on the pull of familial forces... forces that I hope will continue for generations to come.

I bought this 1997 Martin D-45V new at Gryphon. It remains the second best sounding acoustic I've ever played (best was a certain 1941 Martin D-45).

I would not sell any of my acoustics (HD-28, D-18 Special, 00DBM (bought for my wife as an anniversary present). I would consider selling my Telecaster. It is a perfectly nice guitar, but I do not need one.

The one guitar that you own that you would never sell.
Sold a solidly excellent-condition '73 D-45 for all the wrong reasons - a mistake I'll never make again...
That said, there's a few in my stash that share that status - 2013 Gretsch G6136DC "1962 Tribute" White Falcon: 2015 Gretsch G5622T-CB - my gigmeister since new, and likely until I depart this sphere: Gibson SG Faded Bass, bought brand-new in '07, and just retrofitted with a Hipshot bridge for a major improvement in tone (pic shows OEM factory unit) - my main bass since day one: Everything else is negotiable...

My Gibson True Vintage 1942 J45 reissue. Lovely, simple, light, sweet, punchy, comfy, good volume, nice fingerstyle tone, so easy to play!

My Halcyon that Ed Bond built for me last year. It's so very responsive for my fingerstyle and sounds wonderful. 000 12 fret with Torrefied Lutz and figured walnut. Play it every day and it'll never get sold.
