Default Song heard long ago ID

Hi all,
As a mostly lurker, I'm sorry to waste your time but this has been driving me nuts. I heard a song played years ago, before I took playing back up, that I would really like to ID and then learn.
I don't have much to go on but I believe it was played holding an A minor chord in standard tuning with a driving, repetitive AA GG FF EE base line with some variations. Its lyrics may have involved a spell or something witchy or something along those lines. Is this enough for anyone to offer possible candidates?
Thanks!
Rick

Rick, there are LOTS of songs in A minor with that sort of descending bass line. That information alone is not enough to determine the exact song. Do you remember any of the lyrics at all?

It's neither of those and it's not a cover of any popular/well-known band songs. I remember hearing it a couple of times played by different solo lounge acoustic guitarists.
I guess I'll have to hope I run into it again.
Thanks so much for your efforts.

Well, we may already have it Wade. Rick seems to have left the building.

No, not it. Never a popular song, as far as I know. More lounge fare.
Thanks!

It appears Clapton is Chewing tobacco.

The song I'm referring to is very similar to the beginning of Anji by Paul Simon.

What era are we talking about? That could help.

Here is a list of songs with that chord pattern...

Haha! Yes, I see that. I'm guessing he'd been self medicating pretty thoroughly here. Still playin' brilliantly it must be said.

Rick, apologies for side-track!

Thanks, kydave! I'll work through the list. Probably 70's.

No problem, Long Jon. Stupid question anyway.

"Coming In To Los Angeles", by Arlo Guthrie?

REALLY old folk song: "The Cat Came Back"...

There really are a whole lot of songs in that chord pattern...

It could very well be "The Cat Came Back." I'm going to dig through some of the older versions but I think we have it
Thanks, jseth, and everyone!
