They told me at Alvarez, The closest Tom could say was 74 to 77. Said he could be off a year or two. Records were scarce in the early years.

Dan, Just had to add that the bridge you crafted looks first rate, very professional job.

Dan, is that 12 string a solid top?

I'm really just trying to be sure whether this 5022 is a solid or lam top, so I know whether or not to worry about it cracking. The guitar is noticeably heavier than my seagull s6, so I kinda thought it might be a solid top.

Thank You. I have a little machinist background so that helps.

It's a laminated top 3 piece. Sorry. The equivalent Yairi DY-68 IS solid top.

I actually wanted a laminate guitar, so I didn't have to worry about humidity and all that. I figured it had to be lam for the price I paid. I just saw a lot of people debating over it so I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I wasn't sure myself, so when I checked mine very closely it was obviously laminated. I used a high power inspection glass.

Better than taking a saw to it! Lol. I'm honestly surprised by its sound though. I had been looking for a cheap "knock around" guitar in that price range, and comparing fender DG-60s and Epi Pros to this guitar was a no brainer. Even with bad strings, the 5022 still sounded a lot better than the newer lam guitars.

I have said it MANY times, in their respective price range, it will be hard to outperform an Alvarez, or Alvarez/Yairi guitar.

I had been told before that the newer Alvarez guitars(excluding Yairi) are the only decent ones, and that the older models weren't any good. After finally getting my hands on this one, I have to say, it sounds exceptional for a 30 year old lam top. Built like a cowboys cheerleader too! Lol

If you look below you'll note that I have one from 1980, 2006, and 2013.
I used to have a 1996 as well.

All four of them punch way above their price point.
A bunch of really good guitars.

Hey Oldguy. I agree with you about Alvarez. I still have that seagull that I was thinking of selling, just couldn't let it go lol. It's a great guitar, but I'll say that this 5022 really outperforms that S6 when it comes to volume and projection! I think the 'Gull still wins in the tone department though.
