Default Guitar Honey: Fretboard Treatment

Gerlitz Guitar Honey: Any reason to use it above any comparable oils? Will it impregnate anything into my fretboard that I shouldn't want? Any general experience?

I have two guitars with dry-ish fretboards, wondering if I should just "play it out" or accelerate the process.

Default guitar honey

I've used lemon oil once a year. There are some that will say it's a no no but I've used it on all my guitars from a Martin D41 to old Yamahas and never had a problem. Just don't overdue it. And get some from a store that sells woodworking material, the good stuff, not Home Depot. Then there are some that say the natural oils from one's hands are enough but living here in the Northeast with dry winters I don't think oil from one's hands is enough. You can tell when the fretboard is dry....the oil soaks in and in and in. I've used it on all my guitars for 20+ years. Jeff B

Default Guitar Honey vs Lemon Oil?

anyone use Gerlitz Guitar Honey on their fretboard?
Would you recommend it? Does it differ from normal lemon oil.

I do... works great and I've used it for years. I have no idea how similar it is to any other oils, but I think it's a good product.

It gets rave reviews on Amazon, but everyone says it makes your fretboard darker. I'm a little leary about something that changes the color of the wood.
Also Taylor recommends just lemon oil, so I feel safe using that. But if you read the reviews it sounds legit.

Default Guitar Honey

I've been using it for years, sparingly. No residue, no stickiness, etc. It's a great product.

Do any of you use boiled Linseed oil? Back in my wood guitar days (carbon, nowadays) it seems I heard that it was the same stuff as the fancy guitar oils, but way less expensive.

I have been using Gerlitz Guitar Honey for a while.

I've recently tried some F1 Fretboard Oil from Nomad

I like that too, can't say which one I liked better, both do the job for sure.

I currently use F1 and it does leave the fretboard a little slippery feeling the following day, but then it's fine a few days later.

ON OCCASION I will use BORE OIL which is formulated for wood woodwind instruments like piccolos, clarinets, oboes, etc. They are made from African blackwood, rosewood, cocobolo, grenadilla and other woods. A bottle of this stuff costs about $8 and lasts for years. It's used to protect wood instruments that can be far more expensive than most guitars. It absorbs into the wood quickly. The excess wipes off easily and seems to remove additional gunk that doesn't get picked up after the initial cleaning. I would rather use this stuff that's formulated for musical instruments than lemon oil or linseed oil which are generic products designed for general use.

Just ordered some Guitar Honey so I'll see how it does. I've never oiled any of my fretboards so this will be the first.
