Sorta off topic...
But every now and then I see a Taylor with a non-natural finish like the one in the auction and Michelle Branch's. I was just wondering, are the different colored finishes standard or do they have to be special ordered?

what is important
The original bill of sale is THE important factor in this situation. The warranty card gets you in the Taylor database but unless the guitar has a TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY (very few do) the warranty card is useless without the bill of sale. Lumpy, there is no dumb question on this forum, the people here in the vast majority are here to help and have asked the same questions. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Lumpy. Brass bridge pins will not normally improve the sound of a guitar unless you really want it to sound brighter and more brittle.
Guitar makers actually put a great deal of work and thought into making their guitars sound the best they can and the better ones like Taylor pay attention to the details like what kind of bridge pins to use and what kind of tuners and what kind of material for the nut and bridge, what gauge of strings should go on it and so on. The two best things to do to sound better are first to practice your fingers off, and when you can afford it to move up the ladder in quality of guitar. You would be hard pressed to find a better inexpensive starter guitar than a Big Baby, but once you get to the point of playing well enough to appreciate the better sound you can get out of a higher quality guitar you should put your money into moving up to an all solid wood guitar like a Taylor 300 or 400 series, or even a higher series if you have the money. On the warranty card thing, those cards that come with new Taylors are not warranty cards, they are registration cards. What they get you when you send them in is a free subscription to Wood and Steel which is Taylor's quarterly newspaper. You can also register online without any card if that's easier for you or if you have lost your card. As Imn50 said, your warranty is your original bill of sale from the authorized Taylor dealer where you bought it new. Authorized Taylor dealers are not allowed to sell over the internet and so if you buy off Ebay the dealer will not be authorized and there will be no warranty. There are one or two very high end models that have a one-time transferable warranty, but these are few and far between and high cost. You need to check it out very, very carefully before buying one of these used to be sure that you aren't the third or fourth owner in which case the warranty would be void.
